Not by mistake
The lack of artillery (and other large scale weapons like carpet bombing, and tanks) is on purpose. Its hard to promote the one person can make a difference type game when tanks are realistic (Ie tons of mdc, enough to make PA not the best of ideas in comparison), and manned by half a dozen people. Or when your entire city is carpet bombed out of existance. We've sacrificed a bit of realism, hoping to get more fun.

Actually there is a Mortar in the CS Navy book. It's part of the Mk1 Barracuda patrol boat, the CM 80 Mortar. It's very similar to what you have going here.

There was a 155mm artillery piece mentioned in the CS Navy book (the CSS Chi Town description), but stats got left out by accident.
It's details are listed on the PB site on The Cutting Room Floor, under the listing of Errata for Coalition Navy, about half way down the page. It's called the GR-155 Electromagnetic Howitzer.

As Morgan said the XM-140 is kind of a joke. However there is the attachements for the Jaeger/Hunter robot, and there is that huge Mobile base from Mindwerks.

GPS communications? what's thas stupid notion?
On official Rifts earth, that is well known to be impossible... anything that flies too high gets destroyed in a mysterious manner. So how are they going to put the necessary satellites in place?

Good job on those mortars! The ranges are a bit much for Rift's gaming system, but are otherwise quite nice weapons there! The only problem is that to create a new weapon requires a start-up investment and a real need. Unfortunately, I use an undermounted grenade launcher for the close stuff and mini-missiles for everything else as indirect fire weapons. The mortars are good, but I don't see them becoming very popular due to 3 things:
1) Extra weight:Every little bit makes a difference, especially for the soldier in the field.
2) Extra cost:I'd rather have a few SDC and MDC weapons that I can count on without worrying about the cost of another weapon.
3) Extra ammunition concerns: The weight and cost of ammunition for each weapon must be carefully weighed by the commanding officer, of each mercenary soldier. I spend enough of my hard earned credits on armor repairs, more mini-missiles, E-clip recharging and replacing Rail Gun ammunition;I would be unlikely to bother with such a weapon unless I saw some real need ahead.

Just like the "nose cannon" of the spider skull walker (missile launcher).

IF Archie can access another sattelite, he might be able to pull it off. BUt that's an isolated example.
Actually...the CS could do something like this that would work reasonably well. It involves dirigibles flying at 50-60,000 feet. As long as you have three of these over your local horizon you can make an awfully good approximation of a GPS...in fact, this is among some of the things that can be done with today's tech (in fact it was proposed not too many years ago, but for other uses).

Maybe I was a bit....hasty. The idea of cheap, yet effective local arty is gaining appeal. It would give the NPC something to do back at base camp(Manning the mortar), as well as maybe saving our butts. I'm the kind of guy who actually carries several smoke grenades and use them to lay down cover for advance/retreat maneuvers. Hard to hit what you cannot see. So using smoke rounds in the mortar would be a good idea for our team. Every team is different. We'll run the idea (and the post) by the GM.
