Svartalf- if Cherico were a character created in a point game system, he'd have all his scores in geeky skills and his youtube and weird net stuff schticks all paid through a a Terminal Bad Luck (with more nasty GM intervention) disadvantage, and probably an Uncouth (can not have social skills) disad as well...
In an RPG with deadly situations that character would have had to be replaced a dozen times over[

I never use alignment. I judge my & others characters on their actions.

errr... I may be a dumb hick, but the only other system I know that uses alignments is, you know, dumps and dumbasses... I can't see a sensible person calling THAT alignment system better than palladiums.
So could you please name some games that *do* have a better alignment system?

Unprincipled with strong Aberrant leanings. I'm basically a good guy but my views of "right & wrong" definately do not mesh well with what is concidered to be "ethically correct" or the social norm.... or maybe it is and TV has been lying to me all these years.

In Palladium games, I'm Aberrant... in D&D Lawful Evil or Lawful Neutral, depending on whom you ask... and what memories I'm having from the army or whatever...
Eyes without life, maggot-ridden corpses, mountains of skulls... these are a few of my favourite things.

Do you consider killing someone who is unarmed?
Have you ever harmed, harassed or kidnapped an innocent or a child?
Have you ever tortured to extract information?
Have you ever killed for a reason, other than self defense?
Do you rarely attempt to work within the law?
Do you break the law without hesitation?
Do you take dirty money?
Once you do all that, you can call yourself aberrant, posers.
Actually if you read the allignment properly you find that aberrant doesn't mean breaking the law at every given opportunity, or taking dirty money. As for the rest, none of your business.

I would fall on Scrupulous with leaning to Principled.

Well, I support Tyciol's "BS" call (although I'm obviously not as passionate as he is about it ). It's not that the Abberant alignment will attempt to break the law at any given opportunity, it's that he/she feels that they are above the law if it gets in their way (say you think you should be driving that Audi, not the yuppie behind the wheel...An Abberant would pull a DMX and just "aquire" the car...then again, so would a Miscreant and a Diabolic, it's just that the latter two would be more inclined to just car-jack the driver).
Also, I want to repeat these questions Tyciol asked, because all "abberants" out there are tap-dancing around the issue, just so they can toss themselves in the l337!!11!!@@! alignment:
"Do you consider killing someone who is unarmed?"
"Have you ever harmed, harassed or kidnapped an innocent or a child?"
"Have you ever tortured to extract information?"
*as a side note...I voted Scrupulous*

I put myself squarely in the Scrupulous category for the most part, with occasional forays into both Principled and Unprincipled depending on how hard I'm trying to better msyelf at the time.
As for this whole 'alignments' discussion... I don't see the whole 'Palladium alignments suck' argument to be a valid one at all. The way I see it, everyone has limits as to what they will or will not do in certain circumstances. For instance -- would you kill an unarmed person? Would you break the law if you didn't agree with it? Would you harm an innocent civilian? Would you betray your closest friend?
Boil it down to its simplist form, and an alignment is no more than an outline of how far someone will go to get what he/she wants. No, not everyone will meet ALL the specifications listed for a certain alignment, but for my money if you agree with more of the specifications under Unprincipled than Scrupulous or Anarchist then you're considered Unprincipled for all practical purposes. There's no such thing as a perfect RPG system, but Palladium does as good a job or better than any other systems I've played when it comes to giving broad areas of the moral compass.
If you simply don't want to deal with alignments in your games and the rest of the group is okay with it, however, that's your choice. I personally don't agree with it, and I think those who do miss out on a significant chunk of the roleplaying experience (they'd be happier playing a PS2 or X-Box RPG instead), but everyone's got the right to run their games the way they see fit.

Another thing... just because you fit an "allignment" per say doesn't mean you do these things on a daily basis... I notice that you both leave out some other important facets of the allignment, such as having honour, respecting self-discipline and authourity, and never betraying friends...
I think some of the standards more fit "do you have a PROBLEM doing these things", more than do you do these things on a daily basis.

You mean all the same qualities in the Principled or Scrupulous alignments (without any of the evil)?
and to mold the question to fit your definition better...
"Do you have a problem with harming, kidnapping or harrassing an innocent child?"
If you really don't have a problem with that, then I'll concede that you are truly Abberant (but really that's kind of scary and sad).
I really don't want to sound like I'm trying to be angry and calling everyone on their vote. I'm just trying to understand why people really truly consider themselves evil. Do they do it because they think people will think they're cooler (like all the Highschool and younger people that feel that way), or are they really that twisted? I'm just curious.

Harming a child I wouldn't do... however torturing someone to gain needed info I would do. Would I kill an unarmed foe? If someone is my enemy they deserve no mercy. In fact, I was taught not to walk by any "corpses"; check them with a round.
