I thought of putting this in sound off, but also considdered this a stepping stone to the world or rifts.

Nanotech safety issues exposed <---
SUBSTANCES made using nanotechnology should be considered new chemicals and undergo extra safety checks to ensure they do not pose a threat to human health, experts warned.

For a great book that considers the effects nano-tech could have on people's health read FAIRYLAND. Can't remember who it is by but it won the Arthur C Clark Award.
There are whole plagues of nano-viruses (called fembots) that can cause people to think they see God or Elvis or whatever, or to become paranoid schizophrenics, or to see the world through some sort of filter.
READ IT! It's one of the best interpretations of the future I've read.
I suppose this should be in SOUND OFF, maybe I'll start a nano thread there.

Don't forget the "grey-goo" factor.

Memory seems to be reminding me that there was a HLS or something in one of the space books about a world taken over by an accidental release of an "unrestricted" nano, and how the players have to deal with it before it activates and eats them and thier ship... :D
