I only have books 1,2, and 4, but I've liked what i've seen so far.

The SoT series is well worth your money. Though there will be things you don't like (but aren't all books like that to one extent or another?) the wealth of source material on the setting and game is invaluable. And beyond that book 4, the Cyber Knights book, is absolutely required reading for the game for a multitude of reasons.

..Book 6; 29 pages of detailed description of the city of Tolkeen, six of which are detailed maps. The descriptions include what the city was like before the siege and after. If that's not worth it I don't know what is.
..I liked them all. I personally prefer to run games pre Coalition War Campaign, with the old gear, but if I ever run a group long enough for that time to pass, I'll run some of the myriad adventures found in those six books.
..Well worth it.

dnjscott wrote:Well, I missed most of the Tolkeen stuff, and am thinking of picking up the storyline, but... five books(!) I'm planning on picking up Free Quebec, and I have Coalition War Campaign and am borrowing the Cyber Knight book... so, I know Tolkeen lost, in the end, after doing a fair bit of damage to the ol' CS.
Is there good stuff in these books, though? I'd like to be caught up on the storyline, but I don't want to drop $100 on em unless they're worth it on their own...
Well its six books, seven if you include Aftermath.
Personally if I had the chance to go back and have the option to get these books then I would not do so. Beyond the NPC's scattered around and the maps of Tolkeen, which is getting bulldozed over, there isn't anything of real value in them.
If you are just looking to get caught up then Aftermath is all you need.

The storyline is awful.
I knew all this before I went to pick them all up.
I use them all for my game, esp. the Coalition writeups.
What DWK said. I would reccomend borrowing them from a friend first. Or buying them used.
I've got all six books plus the Aftermath (which too is worth grabbing). Firstly, I'm a Rifts fan and will buy the books be they rated well or not...secondly I thought the Siege on Tolkeen series tributed well to Rifts. Plenty of HLS's and overall plot info will assist ANY GM who wishes to run a great Coalition game. Not exactly the "World book" that I'd usually prefer, but still a great addition to my collection.

Actually, it's eight books, if you can find the Rifter issue with the Hook Line & Sinker adventures.
Yes, the SoT is worth it. You need to know the whole grand story before you do anything.

*Thinks for a second* Do you even own any Rifts books? Well, I suppose I remember seeing you with Mercenaries...
Rex, you are one helluva guy.
