the black wall is in Island at the Edge of the World.
so called because you can see the edge of the world, which is the wall.
{spoiler alert}
the wall is linked to the circle of ultimate elemental command, or something similar. the wall consumes things, never to be seen again. in the book, Island at the edge of the world, it describes what happens (or will happen) to any ship that comes in contact with it. I think it is terminal.
the premis is that the circle has been reactivated and is causing the wall to slowly contract, if our hero's, the PCs, do not stop it intime it will consume all of the palladium world.
Conjecture:
it is sugested that a similar circle may be responsible for the baalgor wasteland.
there is nothing but waste beyond the wall as all has been anhiliated that passes into the wall.
I say conjecture because it has been 15 years since I read the book and my memory may not be spot on.

Doom thought Character sheets were the extent of your authorship.
Or do you mean you got a copy of Bill's map?

The black wall is a Giant Dimetional Rift that surrounds the entire known palladium world. You touch it, you get sent to another world (rifts, systems failor, nightbane...wherever you want) I also don't think anything can exit that rift. one way. It has always (as long as people can remember) been there. (it says no one knows really what happens, but if a player touches it, you don't want to kill them, unless you do then it just vaporizes them).
On that note, Looking at the other lands/worlds from the library of Bletherad, I'm thinking that maybe the palladium world is split up into quarters or something, and that the land of devils and demons and the few other worlds all exist on the "palladium" planet, but are separated by this wall. just speculation on my part.
in island at the edge of the world, a pycho makes a mega power elemental circle, which has the unusual effect of causing the wall all around palladium world to shrink. This circle is the one they believe to have been the cause of the wastelands.
When the circle is destoryed, the wall will stop moving. But the wall will still be there. Unless one has orbital flight, there is no way to get across the wall.
Basically, repeating what you said, but when I first read about the wall, I had mistaken it to be a part of the circle. It was kinda confusing, but I wanted to make clear that the wall and the circle are not the same thing (c:

the wall is interesting, but even more, what lies behind it?? I read somewhere that it is actually the southern half of the Palladium world!!! plenty of room there! and why is there no contact at all???

Well, the reason for no contact is that nothing can breach the wall. Assuming something exists beyond the wall. If it is the elemental circle of destruction then anything it has passed has been obliterated. That might also explain why no contact.

The Nightbane Hobbes wrote:So how does one go about shutting one of these circle things off and setting things back normal? Does the wall have a height to it? Or is it more of a sphere?
The wall and circle are two separate entities. But they are so close together that the circle is affecting the wall. The wall was put there by the gods for a purpose. The circle was created near the wall by an insane mage. I forget but I think he fails to relize the circle is affecting the wall.
The circle itself has a radius of power that continues to grow. As it grows the land around the circle dies. (waistland dies). Unfortunatly, this circle is causing the wall around palladium to shrink. As it does, It's probably going to cause everything in palladium to teleport/rift to places all around the megaverse. Thus leaving palladium world empty. And as the circle grows, palladium world will continue to die.
The wall is a giant rifts. So it's wieghts is that of a rift (probably weightless). Not so much a sphere as a circle that surrounds the palladium known world.
The circle of suprieme elemental power can be turned off, but I leave that to anyone who has either read the Island at the edge of the world or who has yet to play it. In the adventure, the players do eventually turn the circle off. Unless they fail the adventure.

Actually...no it's not. "Space" is considered to be 100 miles up. (Although the throttle jocks at NASA & USAF, from what I understand are considered "virgins" until they break the 100k "black sky" mark.) I could be wrong about the actual height, but I am pretty sure 100mi is considered LOW orbit.

My view is kinda along the same route, it's like a bear trap or choker collar; if the Old Ones (whose physical bodies are imprisoned in the known Palladium world) start to get too powerfull, the black ring/wall tightens in and knocks them back into their dormant state because there is not yet a way to actualy destroy them. I think there is probably a comparatively very peacefull world on the other side... maybe a world that has less supernatural evil, or at least one free from the influence of the Old Ones.
I've made it so palladium is split into sectors. Just beyond the barrior is the home world of the deevil and on another side of the wall home world of the Demons...basically it was placed there to keep these demons away from the old ones (all of whom are burried in the known palladium world). Since I got the library of beltherad, The number of sectors it has has grown. Each one of those worlds are really on the same planet (Huge planet, possibly the size of jupiter), but separated by the barrior.

Wouldn't the gravity be incredible with that large of a solid planet, i.e. mass?
Possibly. But I only know basic physics, and even then i'd have to review it to be reminded of the lessons. Unfortunatly in my daily life, having to annalize physics isn't part of my daily ritual so all that information got locked away in the dark closet of my brain. It was just a class I took to get into med school. So, in other words, in this case, ignorance is bliss. It doesn't have to make sense...it's palladium (c:

Well unfortunatly I am taking physics and its true the gravity would be great. But if they are the natural habitants of the planet it wouldnt really matter because they would be used to it.
Yeah, but I don't know that, now do I?

Gravity is dependant on density/mass
If you could prevent the Earth from falling into Jupiter, you could float it in the ocean.
If you were to collapse Jupiter down to a solid ball, I believe it's surface gravity would be somewhere between .75 and 1.25 Gs.
Also, if you were to replace half the silica based minerals in the Earth's crust with iron, you'd probably increase our gravity by 20-50%
So...as long as there are no heavy metals in his Jupiter sized world, the local surface gravity would only be about .8-.95 Gs.

The core of this palladium "jupiter" is made of a magic metal. It warps physics in such a way with the gravitational pull and other physic type stuff that everything wieghs basically the same on this planet as it does on palladium. When in doubt, magic it out.

Yeah, I know how to. But it takes so much effort. And then I have to type out my post and then move the mouse. We're talking real work here.
