However, are they not doomed to fail? Isn't magic the only way to close an active Rift? Stone Magic or high level spell magic?

I had to think there was some way for the anti-magic CS to be able to match what the magicians can do. But what is it?

According to some rules currently being argued over by Doom III and Temporalmage in the Teleportation thread. According to The FOM and RGMG magic can't penetrate into an armored vehicle. So If you make a large enough armored vehicle that can park over the Nexus point maybe that would be able to cap it. After all the Nexus and the Rift are Magic.

well, magnetic feilds are used to block magic/psi powers n the SoT boks (don't remember the book, but it was in there.)

so perhaps if you generated a powerful enough magnetic feild on the right frequency, you could "shutdown" the flow of energy to the rift, effectivly "cutting the circit"

Yes they are doomed.
Any technological way is centuries beyond them and since they are very unlikely to get any inter-dimensional trade going they are screwed.

Besides the Gateway arch is permanent and indestructible.

The CS actually do have access to space-time tech although they don't know it. In the sealed off section of the Lonestar complex there is a Rift device that only Bradford knows about, he turned it on once and it Rifted most of the mutant rats into the sewers and the Pecos badlands.
Yet even the In'Valins whose tech is centuries ahead of the CS only created a Rift once and it was a disaster.

Wow....I'd say it's an impossible task. The CS are doing pretty much all they can and probably could ever do. They already have tons of weapons, bunkers, power armor, robots, and troops gaurding the St Louis Arch as is. I don't think there would ever be a tech way to plug or shut it down. And I'm sure the CS has already sent a nuke or three through the thing in hopes that would work, but of course the nuke would just blow up on the other side of the rift, doing nothing to the rift itself.

Um, so what's a nuke gonna do to an indestructable, unshutdownable, rip in the fabric of time and space?? Tickle it???

Nothing at all. As has been stated, the St Louis Archway Rift and the structure it formed inside are indestructible. The best that could be hoped for is a way to control the Rift so that it opens only in areas that are harmless to the CS. Even that is highly unlikely at this point in time on Rifts Earth.

Otto wrote:Well, a rift is basically a magically created tear in the fabric of spacetime that comprises the megaverse. At least one race, the In'Valians from the Phase World source book, were able to open a rift with technology alone; with further research they like would have figured out how to close them as well.

If gravitons could be preduced in sufficient number, they could warp spacetime. This is how I feel technology would be utilized for this endeavor.

So did the Humans of Earth the special technological device that started it all was called a USA-G10 assisted by prodigious use of NUKES.

Well I know this topic specifically said without magic...but what if several Mystic Knights joined forces and used their powers to deny the PPE in the ley lines that feed the St Louis Arch? Just an idea.

For a totally tech way to block it up: 1 million cans of Great Stuff foam sealant! 8)

What about an army of mystic knightsand Psi-Nullifiers (or whoever it is that can create negative-PPE) plus 100s of mages casting anti-magic cloud.

Oh and wasn't this thread just about a rift in general not specifically the St Louis Gateway Rift? That one would be heaps harder to close as it is fused with the Arch.

say, what would happen if someone droped a LARGER rift right on top of it. would it just send it to another demension?

Can you say a repeat of the Atlantis Adventure...say, that might be just what the CS would like...a massive draining of all magical energy planetwide...

Anyway, someone (ok, a couple of someones) came up with the idea of denying it PPE...

Simple answer, assuming you can convince the CS to leave you alone long enough... Build a pyramid on each side of the arch for each LL that contributes to the nexus.

Side thought: Anyone else wonder why "the activation of every fault line on earth" during the fall failed to trigger the New Madrid fault running under Louisiana? (And why the old man Mis doesn't therefore end almost 300 miles further inland because of it?)

Stargate Iris?? What happens if the Rift is surrounded by a shell or field that is just at it's periphery? What happens to a dimensional traveler that can't complete the transfer? Rifts are two way so do they just remain on the other side?
