You know beatle... I just can't agree with you.
There's a number of instances where borgs are given ONE multi-optics eye... and left with the other flesh one... so there's just no problem replacing that one with an interesting cyber/bionic one.

I allow people to get away with just one cyber-eye, but I encourage them to go for two because it's got to be funky seeing in infra-red with one eye and normal vision in the other.

in an older (rather pathetic) sci-fi books i have, one of the main characters has a normal eye and an thermal eye. the thermal eye is covered with a patch, so most of the time its not in use, and when the guy wants to use it, he switches the patch to over his normal eye. you lose depth perception, but it works.
and if a player chooses not to use such a cheap method, just assume its like the rattlesnake. a rattler can see in visable light as well as detect heat, and when this kind of system is represented in books, its as a normal image with thermal shading overlaid in a translucent coloring. i doubt thats what the rattler see's, but it works for a visual explanation.
