I have something similar. An alien intelligence who is on the good side(unprincpled alignment). Basically the AI was a servant of the Old Ones way back when. His attitude toward lesser beings changed during the millenia of abuse it suffered at the hands of the Old Ones. Having been downtrodden, it now felt sympathy and connection to other life forms. When the great battle against the Old Ones happened, it took on a human/godly form and joined the fight against the Old Ones. Afterwards he kept the godly masquerade up. I beleive AIs can produce priests,and if they couldn't he would create witches(obviously with nicer obligations and pacts), that he would call priests.

true, though I belive a dozen or so samples of small, green etchings of Benjamin Franklin would be more well recived
