Thinking too much... Ear implant question!

Unread post by Veyska »

I need to stop being so finicky about the little details. Really... :-?

Sorry if I'm repeating a question found elsewhere, but a search returned nothing relevant to my question and I am *not* sorting through every thread out there for the answer.

*****

With cybernetic/bionic eyes, it says you can buy one or a pair. There's nothing similar for ear implants. Does the implant go in one ear or two? If one, how the heck does it affect the other ear? I can see some implants either functioning with just one ear or being able to simulate stereo hearing with tech, but I could not see a single-ear implant for Sound Filtration protecting the other ear. Also, if they are indeed one ear implants that somehow affect the other ear, is it allowable to get two different ear implants with one in each ear?

(And a random amused observation unrelated to the ears question. Bionic eyes mention the fact that they are obviously mechanical as a difference between them and cybernetic eyes. Cybernetic eyes, however, mention that they look like camera lens. Go figure... )

it dosn't affect the other ear. it dosn't have to. you get the same bonuses from one as from two.

You can have something done good, fast and cheap. If you want it done good and fast, it's not going to be cheap. If you want it done fast and cheap it won't be good. If you want something done good and cheap it won't be done fast. ~ Dark Brandon

*HOW* does it do that if that's how it works? I can't buy the idea sticking a "doodad" in *only* one ear gets you protection in both from sonic booms. I don't want my Cyber-Knight getting deafened repeatedly when the Glitterboy in the party decides to join in the fighting.

your deaf in one ear but not the other. you only need one ear to hear.

You need two to pinpoint sound by "depth" though. You lose depth perception when you lose one eye, you lose the equivalent when you lose hearing in one ear.

Even if the implant is just the simple headjack and/or radio? That doesn't modify hearing at all...

Do you have Bionics Sourcebook?

What I would do is that a implant designed to augment, such as amplified hearing needs to built into both ears.

Something like a radio scanner, would count as a "head implant" in general and then not worry about beyond that.

Sound filtration is two ears and the rest are one ear implants.
Sound filtration would be useless if it didn't work for both ears.
