That works out to 15' per Spd point per melee. If you use meters, it is 5 meters per Spd point per melee.
If you have one group with 4000' range weapons and one with 1600' weapons, it can be pretty ugly.
Anyone have any favorite rules on how far apart two groups are when they spot each other?

Depends on terrain / weather. Can be (just like in RL) anywhere from as soon as you physically impact one another to several miles away.
