Don't forget the ever-popular surname Devareaux lol.
Eyes without life, maggot-ridden corpses, mountains of skulls... these are a few of my favourite things.
I am the first angel, loved once above all others...
Light a man a fire, and he's warm for a day; light a man on fire, and he's warm for the rest of his life.
Turning the other cheek just gets you slapped harder.

Ceceille it's CECILE
Evan : uncommon
Linda : uncommon, English
Ivan : good call, I'd forgotten that one
Nancy : English
Edward : in French that's EDOUARD, and not very common, though probably more that side than this.
Descartes : good call
Ingleson : is that supposed to be a Quebecer family name? it's Norse.
Oliphant : where did you find that?
Nader : not Quebecer
And I posted my own list in the "all things PB" thread.

hey Mr Pelletier... nice stuff you've given Gideon
but why in hell did you destroy my name... granted, I did not realize it was precisely common, beside in the years around the time I was born...
it 's still SYLVAIN , with an I 'tween the a and the n... and is utterly unpronounceable for an english speaking mouth...

Nagisawa Takumi wrote:There's also
Remy (RAY-mee)
Jean (Jeh-ah, although if you pronounce it at the proper speed it's sounds like one sound.)
You can combine those two and you get Jean-Remy which although is actually the name of a X-Man, being a French Canadian, I have a cousin named so, and altough Lebleu is also the same X-man's last name, I know a few of nice people with the same. There's also the stereotypical Jean-Guy, which is common enough.
Female names: Aline (AH-lynn), Muguette (MÜ-get), Nicole (NEE-col), Josehine (JO-seph-in), Jeanne (Same as Jean, but add a 'n' sound at the .)end, Beatrice (BAY-ah-tris)...
A note on prounoncing certain sounds. R's, roll them. The 'J' sound is softer, kinda a J-z combo... That one's hard to explain.
Jean can be compounded with just any other first name... the most common results being Jean-Marc, Jean-Luc and Jean-Pierre ... though I've even seen a Jean-Jean or two in literature (never IRL, or only as a family name). it is to the point that Jean, as a single name is actually quite rare (at least in France). For females, the same compounding rule can be applied to Marie or Anne (Marie-Ange, Anne-Caroline, Marie-Catherine, Marie-Jeanne, Anne or Marie-Cécile, Marianne, Anne-Marie, Jeanne-Gabrielle ... etc)
and please, unless you actually are familiar with French, just leave alone the pronunciation of our nasal vowels... take it from me, you English speakers have a hell of a time grasping those... As for Jeann, is pronounce as "Jann" ... contrary to the masculine counterpart, the vowel is quite ordinary.

ougll... acrostics having passed from fashion, I must admit that I did not look... that one is doubly crappy, both for the key, and for the execution, the art in such thing is making good stuff while respecting the form after all...

Gosh... Guy Lafleur is still remembered with awe today? 30 years after the time of his glory? I'd never have guessed so.

O'Malley and a couple of other Irish names also ring proud and common in Quebec (pronounced Kebec)... They come from the orphans of families that died on the crossing from Ireland in the latter half of the 19th century. The Bishop that parcelled the orphans out to "good Catholic homes," with the agreement of the families in question, allowed the kids to keep their Irish names, as this was the dying request of the parents...

Atramentus wrote:No one mentioned my favourite girl, Micheline.
Or her handsome brother Michel. Both being the francais equivalent to Michelle and Michael.
Not to mention a fine enemy could have the last/family name Richelieu!
J'ai commencer a penser en francais tout le temps!
May have to do with the fact that Richelieu and Micheline are not all that common, even in a place with such oldfangled names and customs as Québec.
