Am I beating a dead horse?
Had an argument between two players this past weekend. One said just the spine and brain, the other said Brain, Spine, Toung, Vocal cords. Normaly I would step in, but I figured that this will effect the whole game and some of the players, so I left it up to them.
This started over dinner... literally.
P1 I want a steak.
P2 Why?
P1 It taste good.
P2 You can't taste anything, you are a borg

ummm, it says that the tounge is the #1 thing that IS kept next to the brain.
it also says that the spine is reinforced, though kept.
the heart and lungs are both kpet if good, but if they are bad they are replaced.
actually ALL internal organs are kept if they don't need replacement

well... in a full conversion borg, the only remaining flesh parts are the head, and parts of the neck and spine.
your steak loving borg could probably taste the steak (the mouth and throat are usually left more or less intact under the borg faceplate, so the voice remains natural). but he'd have to spit it out after chewing, as he's no longer equipped to digest it, even if he could still swallow.

no, it says plainly that internal organs are kept or replaced if cybernetics would be better.
have any of you people actually bothered to read everything they have on borgs

Obviously not.
Don't you love it when you answer a question by citing the actual rules from the books, then a bunch of people jump in with their opinions which are based on nothing besides the way they think maybe stuff should be like?

Ok, for those of you who think that the borg dosn't need to and can't eat. . .
you also admit that the brain is kept. what's keeping it fed then? it needs to go though the usual processes the same as others.
now, with only the brain and other organs to keep, the AMOUNT of food is likely greatly reduced. likely only need to eat and drink as much as a psi-stalker daily as the stalkers do weekly.
and don't forget, brains also need WATER. meaning the borg also has to drink.

According to the Bionics Sourcebook, page 77
Virtually the entire body is replaced with a mechanical one. Only the brain, the face, and a few other original human components, especially the tongue, throat, and head are all that remains of the original flesh and blood body.

My best guess is that a full conversion borg's need for food and water is satisfied through the administration of a glucose vitamin and trace element solution. The Japanese IV feed implant is sort of a reserve for that, while most borgs must have a regular supply and absorb it as need arises.

but it also says in japan that it temprarly removes the NEED to eat. meaning they did before

It says in the main book that they have "life sustaining fluid".
I would expect it needs changed now and then but that's about it. No food needed and there is no digestive system left anyway.

Looks like you're right ... the IV feed seemingly assumes that it is an emergency system and that the borg usually eats normally.
What bothers me is how they pack all those enhancements in borgs if they also have to pack in a full complement of artificial organs... I'd have sworn that the digestive tract would be gone for good... oh my, the very idea of a full conversion borg pooping... next thing it will be the excretory systems of R2 D2 and C3PO

It depends on the 'borg...
You can keep as little as the brain and a short extent of spine, to most of the main CNS (brain/spine) and most of the major (internal) organs. Yes, the face and tongue can be kept IF the person asks the cyber-doc. If the person does not want to keep much ,the could also tell the 'doc to keep the brain and spine only.

The brain needs two things to survive oxygen and glucose. If the brain is missing even one of these the brain will die.
