I've got a Rifter article (maybe canon stuff) planned on this topic someday down the road, but your best references are the Stone Master's gem powers, and the general color and nature of precious stones. There are some good sites out there that offer that sort of background info on gems.

Um...one thing you could do is go to the 1st ed DMG...it has a list of "mystical powers" associated with different gems.

Or, you could just google it (the question that is! :D), never know what might pop up!

Try the Stone Master in Rifts: Atlantis.

You could always try getting ahold of a 1st ed. AD&D DMG it had mystic gem powers as I recall a fairly large list.
