Is this just basically "Adventures in the Northern Wilderness" redressed, or is it substantially different?

I belive it is both Adventures and Further Adventures in the Northern Wilderness with some things taken out and some added in.

..It is substantially different. A few things about it bugged me pretty bad, like the major screw up of not crediting Larry MacDougall (pg. 104, 143, 153) for his artwork left over from the first editions, and not including the arbolytes (the original adventure they were from was writen by a former staffer who left on bad terms AIU).

..But all in all, I liked it and the additions made it a good book beyond the first two.

what the Tree Swifts kicked butt. It was also a cool "chase scene" in a fantasy setting I ever ran. Nah, oh well. I have the originals (1st edition) getting the Wolven Empire thru grab bag (gots me fingers crossed).

basically now you need three books to cover the Wolfen and the North, instead of two like before.

the new material in the book is fine, but they should have reprinted everything from the 1st ed books or do no reprint at all, just new material.

by the way, Palladium Books first said that they will never do a second edition of the Northern Wilderness books (when I read that I bought the two books), then they changed their minds and said that they will combine the two old books into one new book (thats what I always hoped for) and finally what we got was the luke-warm, half-hearted (but profitable) solution that is the Wolfen Empire sourcebook.

End of the line, Pal! My bitterness (which knows NO bounds) over the Old Kingdom books has been in line MUUUUCH longer than yours over the Wolfen books.

My copy of the Yin Sloth Jungles, from the first 1994 printing, promises Old Kingdom for late 1995 and Wolfen Wars for December of 1994... Sigh.

I have Further Adventures. I agree that its sad that in order to have access to all the information pertaining to the Wolfen/North one needs three books. So all I need is Wolfen Empire and Adventures of the Northern Wilderness.

Btw, I have this weird notion that Northern Hinterlands also covers the North. In this context, am I correct? If so, that would make four...

Actually Northern Hinderlands covers from the Land of the Damned Mts. to Dragon Claw, the Western parts of the Great North. Wolven Empire covers from Dragon Claw to the Algorian Bay, the Eastern parts of the Great North.
Both books combined gives you the full Great North, lots of good stuff, if you also get a chance pick up Adventures and Further Adventures in the Northern Wilderness (they are 1st edition, but well worth extra reading material)

Well he was asking about the Wolven side of the North, and if he needed Adventures, Further Adventures, and Wolven Empire to grasp the whole Eastern part of the Great North. I agree that all 4 books are the way to go, but the reason I belive they wrote Wolven Empire was to update Adventures and Further Adventures to 2nd edition and combine them into one book.

I would have prefered to see something a little more Western Empireish for the Wolfen Empire. I'd love to jump into Wolfen politics a bit, and have each of the major tribal regions (hunting grounds?) detailed in full. Then again, I'm one of those folks that thinks the Inland Sea should have its own book...

The closest I think you'll get is in Adventures in Northern Wilderness (not sure if its in Wolven Empire). Page 8 up front shows general locations of the tribes, brief detail, and workings of the "empire".

thats my point, my definition (or just wish) of "combine" would be that after that I need only one book cause it combines all the material of the two old books.

which, as we know, didnt happen, so now we need 3 books on the Great Northern Wilderness as well as Northern Hinterlands for the North.

I just had a crazy thought. If all the GM's that post on this forum could ever get together to run a campaign (that they all agreed on...lol) it would positively rock! Just think... Entiago with his knowledge of Palladium Geography (by the way man, that online map of yours is awesome), Mr. Nexx with his knowledge of the basic rules (yes, I'm a fan), and Rockjock with that near photographic memory, we could run the campaign of the century! And that's only scratching the surface of all the talented Gm's on these boards! (I mean, come on, we've got legends like Carl Gleba posting on this site. How did we get so lucky to be able to pick the brains of the great Palladium Gods themselves?)

Resurrecting a long dead topic, but if I pass on the two Northern Adventures books, what exactly am I missing out on compared to getting just the Wolfen Empire book? I’m mainly interested in Northern Adventures, and slightly interested in Further. Thanks!
