SDC BIIIIIIAAAATCH!!!! You don't know adrenaline until you go toe-to-toe with someone as tough as a tank and win while you yourself are the equivalent of a Yugo Hatchback durability-wise.

Any Cosmo-Knight can face off against a Dragon, but to take a Coalition Tech Officer and pit him against a Full Conversion Borg....and win? That is a feeling that no Cosmo Knight will ever know.

What feeling? Squished? I thought the point was to never feel Squished. :P

Was a CS Military Specialist, with limited equipment and have faced and beaten a Full Conversion Merc borg played by another PC (who is actually very intelligent i might add) the cat and mouse between me and him and his lackeys took about 12 hours real time, one of the most memorable games in my history of gaming, it is still talked about today amongst my group 10 years later. So going to have to agree with Shin on this one.

Admitadly the re-match didn't go quite this well though

You obviously missed the part about winning...but you're an officer, so it's ok. You don't have to pay attention to much except headcounts and making sure you sign whatever papers go in front of you... :D

hehehe, you know I'm kiddin' Mack.

I think everybody knows how I feel about MDC anyway, so, guess how I voted.

Most of my favorite characters are SDC. not because of any real desire to play a 'weak' character and overcome great odds, but just because most of the character types I like happen to be SDC.

most of my players want to play MDC characters because they feel too vulnerable to random squishing if they're SDC. I can see their point, it is awfully easy to die from things that seem to be totaly out of your control when you're an SDC being in rifts.

but I'll take my chances with my dog boys. :)

I like to play humans.
So it's SDC for me.

Voted MDC... mostly for my penchant for Tri-Wolves and Fallen Cosmo-Knights...

I like playing lighter MDC creatures that still look human. That way I can still wear armor and look normal, but If I need that MDC, its there.

I voted MDC because I don't like to wear armor.

Armour is cool! Have you seen the Maximillian full plate armour? Neat.
Now soup it up with a strength enhancing endo-skeleton, trick it out with a concealed micro-hover system, add some cool P-Beam arm blasters...

I votes SDC because I like to play as regular humans.

In the first year of my rifts group, pretty much no characters made it past 2nd level. GBs, Dragons, Grunts, Headhunters... Nobody. Mages and psychics, for some reason, died particularly easy.
The first character in the group to make it to 4th level was a human vagabond who started off with no armor or MD weapons.
It's not what you play, it's how you play it.

Of all the characters I've played, my favorites were all CS, and thus all SDC squishies. Though I do have a Ramen Gunslinger that I'm pretty fond of.

This is an ongoing debate

Personally, I can see the relevance to using MDC as an abstraction to describe genuinely tough armor that exists on current weapons in the US military's arsenal.

I have personally witnessed rounds bouncing off of the chobab armor on the M1A1. Not only that, I saw one that was disabled (NOT destroyed) in action during Gulf War Duece. Afterwards, it was deliberately targeted by our A/C in an effort to prevent the enemy from acquiring its technology and was not significantly damaged. To be more specific, it retained its shape under heavy direct bombardment from gravity bombs.

There is no possible way for you to damage such a weapon, except for ariborne attacks using specific anti-tank weapons. If you did take such a powerful weapon and used it against pink fleshy objejects it would turn them into chunky badguy salsa.

Getting back to the abstract nature of combat in any RPG, I believe that MDC is an excellent way to create clear boundaries between normal people, supernatural creatures and high tech devices.
