108 Korean Weapons
While I'm still colating stuff for reposting Asian weapons, I was wondering if anyone actually knew just exactly what all the 108 weapons were, I've found maybe 50 or so from the research I've done, but it seems like there were a heck of a lot more running around that you never hear about except for vague references to (108 traditional weapons in 20 classes). If anyone has information on this, that would be cool.

Which 50 do you have?
Are some of them simply variations on size? Like the Japanese Katana, Daito, Gunto, and Dachi? Same thing (basically) different lengths and ornateness...

Ironically, the examples you listed aren't the same things at all. The Katana is a type of long sword in an uchigatana mount, the daito is a generic term for any sword with a blade over 2 shaku, the Gunto is a new-style sword done in the traditional manner, and the dachi sounds like you tried to say tachi and misspelled it. They are not basically the same thing at all, though they are all around the same length, generally.

Basically, they are all two handed sabre style blades. For the purpose of the game, how different do they need to be (IRL, I certainly know the differences matter).
I've seen "dachi" and "tachi", and as I am not fluent in Japanese, I fuigured they were interchangable. My apologies.

Actually, they're not even that. Several of the sub-styles of tachi are one handed, most gunto are one handed, and some sub-styles of katana are one handed. There are also other issues, like blade quality that would play a role in the game.Sentinel wrote:Basically, they are all two handed sabre style blades. Almost forgot that most are more in line with bastard swords than two-handed swords.

So, for simplicitys' sake, we call them Hand-and a-half sabre style blades, with additional D6 for higher quality...
size qualifiers for variations of more than four-to-six inches, perhaps.
Again, for the sake of game simplicity: the difference between a daito and a gunto is less than a gunto and a No-Dachi.

it just seems like otherwise, you end up with a lot of swords that all do damage with 1-4 points of each other for the sake of small variaitions.

Let me translate for you, since you haven't gotten the point yet.
Again, for the sake of game simplicity: the difference between a daito and a gunto is less than a gunto and a No-Dachi.
Again, for the sake of game simplicity: the difference between a large sword and a saber is less than a saber and a two-handed sword.
Yeah, small variation.

Yeah, small variation.
well, you stated that:
They are not basically the same thing at all, though they are all around the same length, generally
So, yes, if that is the case, then in the simplest terms, small variations. If there is a greater size difference (and I already conceded a difference in quality) then sure, add damage, etc.
I am not comparing or equating a Japanese sabre to a European one: I am comparing them to each other, when the sizes are roughly the same.
