Schools?

Unread post by Blight »

How would you handle an organization that could send players to military schools Like Path finders, Ranger, Airborne, or Sniper 16 to 5 week courses that provide A lot of skills? Thats just my military based game spy's have there own schools ran by CIA and other organizations.

So a player say he spends the time (I'll make them make some rolls) and bang they get 4 to 8 skills from there given school. should some schools get physical bounes like HtH instuctor course you get HtH expert and 10 sdc for getting beat up for 8 weeks staight. Just an as an example.

I wouldn't give bonuses like that unless you're giving physical skills as part of the program. A few weeks training wouldn't have the long term bonuses of the years of training in Body Hardening Exercises and such, in my opinion.

That makes perfect sense Lionheart. Now all i have to do is make skill programs that fit school or training. (this is gonna take some work)

These are the basic skill you have to have to pass Ranger school? I put the skills from the book that i knew in italic. What skills fit the rest.
Army Ranger Skills

athletics
running
swimming

squad combat patrol operations.
fieldcraft
communications
night and day land navigation
medical considerations class (first aid)
combatives (hand-to-hand)
ambush and reconnaissance patrols (detect ambush)
airborne operations (parashooting
)
air assault operations (rappelling from aircraft)
command and control a platoon size patrol through planning, preparing
learn how to sustain himself and his subordinates in the adverse conditions (wilderness survial)
learns about knots, belays, anchor points, rope management and the basic fundamentals of (climbing and rappelling and rope work)

lead small units on independent and coordinated airborne, air assault, small boat, ship to shore, and dismounted combat patrol operations,
Now these are the basic skill taught
And a person need to be in the best shape just to think of going.
Also It is the most stressful and mentally draining course the army could make (It's designed to make you crack) So just to go take the package you would need high ME, PE, and a good IQ and PS

Army Ranger Skills

athletics

Maybe.

running

Covered under Basic Military skill program.
swimming

I could see this
squad combat patrol operations.
fieldcraft

Tactics
communications

Radio: Basic.
night and day land navigation

Sure.
medical considerations class (first aid)
Sure
combatives (hand-to-hand)
You're gonna have to be a bit more specific.
ambush and reconnaissance patrols (detect ambush)
Yup
airborne operations (parashooting)

Parachuting
air assault operations (rappelling from aircraft)

Climbing, covered under Basic Military skill program.
command and control a platoon size patrol through planning, preparing

Leadership
learn how to sustain himself and his subordinates in the adverse conditions (wilderness survial)
More or less.
learns about knots, belays, anchor points, rope management and the basic fundamentals of (climbing and rappelling and rope work)
Rope Use.
lead small units on independent and coordinated airborne, air assault, small boat, ship to shore, and dismounted combat patrol operations,
Tactics.

Hmm...give OCC requirements before you can even select skill programs, it doesn't make much sense to require minimum attributes for a skill program.

Those skills should be a part of basic training.

Blight wrote:squad combat patrol operations.
fieldcraft

The tactics skill (where it exists)

Blight wrote:communications

Which ones?

Blight wrote:night and day land navigation

Land Nav should be under basic training. Night Fighting skills were in Recon

Blight wrote:medical considerations class (first aid)

First Aid shoudl be a part of basic

Blight wrote:combatives (hand-to-hand)

What does this mean? A hand to hand upgrade of one notch? Hand to Hand Expert? Hand to Hand Assassain?

Blight wrote:ambush and reconnaissance patrols (detect ambush)
airborne operations (parashooting
)
air assault operations (rappelling from aircraft)

Rappelling is part of climbing, should be in basic.

Blight wrote:command and control a platoon size patrol through planning, preparing

Tactics, again

Blight wrote:learn how to sustain himself and his subordinates in the adverse conditions (wilderness survial)

Should be a part of basic

Blight wrote:learns about knots, belays, anchor points, rope management and the basic fundamentals of (climbing and rappelling and rope work)

Got those right

Blight wrote:lead small units on independent and coordinated airborne, air assault, small boat, ship to shore, and dismounted combat patrol operations,

Tactics again

Blight wrote:Now these are the basic skill taught

So 14 on the endrances and 12 on the IQ and PS

Skills that are allready covered in basic might get an extra +5 to +10 for the extra training.

I wanted to show how hard the school is (hardest in the army) fail rate is 50 to 70% units spend month pushing troops to top condition before they even get to go. How would you work that in a game it's got me stumped?

while i was typing Jefffar answered alot of my question, thanks oh ya you get no water training in basic, little climbing save confidence climbs and the rope in pt. No wilderness survial. These skill are for AIT or units to teach in basic you get (listed as game skills)
wp rifle,
wp baonett
running (lot of running)
Military etiquette,
basic HtH
athletics (pt)
platoon sized tactics and drill
That really is it, all rest of the skills a soldier gets come later. Basic is mostly mental. It teaches you to think as a part of a group, get you to work cohesively as a unit. All soldiers get this training from cook to Airborne Rangers.

Check it out, but not for the skill programs. Look at the skills and other information.
