super martial arts

Unread post by blade76 »

I have seen many martial art styles from streetfighting to titan swordsmanship but I found this site ,with 3 of the most over the top fighting arts ,I've ever seen

http://www.riftsguild.com/pammachon.htm

http://www.riftsguild.com/Silambam.htm

http://www.riftsguild.com/gatka.htm

Used in combination they can all be learnt within 15 years combined ,how good and powerful do you think they will make a PC and are there anymore styles like these?

Over the top is right, the only things more munchkin that I've see are the original version of HTH Speedster and some martial arts that were sent to me where the author basically gave the style everything.

Interesting ideas, but so horribly executed that anyone who would use or let be used these styles wouldn't get invited to any games I'm in.

I'm just wondering where they got all the background information.

do you think they would they be written differently, if they weren't written for the rifts setting?

No. In general, people have a hard time grasping the idea of "game balance".

i think it does make a difference, which rpg you are writing for.

in my view GM's have a better handle on game balance than players.

from my quick reading of these three martial arts, i do think they attempted to balance these out, for instance one of these is mainly hth, another is staff only.

those are rather major handicaps.

the focus appears to be on ideas, rather than on game balance.

on the whole i like them.

i want to try them out, but the game balance thing is in the way. i can just see my GM, saying no, no, no, if i present him with a printout of these.

has anyone else even considered using these, and what has been the reaction of your GM or what do you think will be their reaction

If they were written to be compatible for Rifts, they should have been done in the quickie martial art style, since they weren't, that means they already start off being different enough.

Depends.

You're kidding, right? That's like saying the low number of attacks is a handicap for Thai Kick Boxing.

The focus appears to be on Kewl Powerz rather than serious ideas.

Thumbs up for your GM then.

Not no, but hell no. These things were better written but still more munchy than even the Rifter #7 styles.
