There is not a single magic item that I have EVER considered a "must" have for ANY PC of mine.
Now, if you meant which ones do I LIKE to have?
Gauntlets of quickhands
amulet/ring/whatever that casts fleet feet 3x a day
any weapon that gives an extra attack (such as deathkiss).

healing/anti-poison potions and magic bandages are pretty high on the list. (when there's no priest around)

Underthings of the Enviroment (same enchantment as the 'enviromental tent')
Some sort of magic weapon (from a type of the char's fav. weapon type)
cloak of armor w/the noiseless feature
Gryphon Claws
tongues ring
(I didn't even have to resort to picking any from rifts, nor any ultra-rare rune weapons)

As for "must haves?" There are none. You don't need magic items to play PF, they just make things easier.
That said, there are some general types that are my favorites, and which I'll try to get before I focus on acquiring others.
1) Any magic weapon.
2) Anything that lets you fly.
3) Anything that heals.
4) Reduced-Weight armor
5) Any item with a Tongues effect.

If only one single item? Than I would have to say something like the Mantle of the Gods. (High Seas Book)
All the attribute enchancment rings are just great.
But I love them potion: A LOT!!!
Leather Potion Bandoleer with about 12 metal tube shaped flasks to hold the potions, and quick release quarks. And a back up supply on your belt with about 6 more, and a back back full of replacement potions
Healing Potions (superior) x as many as you can carry
Might of the Palladium
Fleet Feet
Fly(as an eagle)
Invisibility
Chameleon
Impervious to fire
Impervious to cold
Negate Poison
Size of the Behemoth
Superhuman Strength
Swim as a Fish
Turn self into mist
And screw the "Tongues" potion, if someone doesn't speak Elven than the aren't worth talking to in the first place.
Some other really great items are:
Gaurdian Stones - For protection and back up
Boots of fleetness - Getting around faster is always a plus
Cloaks of Guises/Suit of Colors - Dress for any situation
Enviromental Tent - For the rough camping trips into the far icy north or southern jungles
Container of Much Water - The desert trips are a breeze with this item, you could never drink 6 gallons of water in 24 hours.
Armor: Leather of Iron is pretty nice
Weapon: Magic dwarven made quaility battle axe with the following enchantments: Super-sharpness, Additional Damage(+1 die), Armor Piercing. So you have a weapon that does 4D6+8 to damage, +2 strike/parry, and lowers your critical hit range by two and just bypasses armor and natural AR all together.
There is just so many wonderful magical items, I just can't choose one.

Misfit KotLD wrote:You're right. The Vorpal Blade is over the top. A Sword of Sharpness is fine.
My grevence about your picks is not that they are 'over the top' (even thou they are) all you picks including a 'Sword of Shapness' is that they are D&D stuff. And this is the PFRPG forum, so "What 5 magic items found in PFRPG would you want your char to have?"

1) Rune Weapon/Holy Weapon/"Standard" magical weapon

If "must have" means required, I'd say none. If the game is done right, characters can theoretically do just fine never running into a single magic item (though I think that would be a boring game).
If "must have" means something totally spiffy that you can't imagine how you ever ran a character without it, I've got two:
- Anything that casts "tongues"
- Magic Water Skin (2ed, pg 259)

Great choices so far. For items that I would prefer incase I had the cash flow for it (and actually played the game instead of ran it). I'm pretty cheap mind you. A firewick, magical bandages, and a magically colored weapon. It is a magic weapon after all.

1. bags of holding (Dimensional pockets) These are quite fun, but are to be earned in my games.
2. a crystle of light (Especially when used in a miners light, in place of a candle or a magnifycation lamp) I usually give them to the PCs in the first fight.
3. a tongues things are nice too, I give them 1 in the begining because the mage couldn't really be trusted to show up when I was running.
4. bandages, healing potions, and stuff like that!!!!! Gods I wish I had a dollar for all the magic bandages and healing potions I have sold and given to my players. HUMMM...Charging the players for magic bandages. HUMMM
5. ??? I will get back to you.

I have not played this game in so long I couldn't say what mine would be. As for my players, they are always trying to get items that give them never ending supplies of (x). Especially food and water. As their GM I tend to nitpick their choice of equipment, and I do enforce things like hunger and thirst. So if you went to that town to resupply and didn't but food and water, I WILL make you regret it.

Agreed...I had a PC invent a spell called "create tea and cookies". As I recall he made quite a successful profit form it in wisdom and in Haven as well as the Western Empire.
