Yes and no. Without having seen the Rifter in question, I can't say for sure, but I imagine that any ameboid would need sufficient mass to split, and a lot of energy. Microscopic ameboae, these things would have to gain a fair amount of mass... and once they split, would their "offspring" necessarily be their slave, especially if they were the sort who would reproduce just because?

perhaps they "bud"?
asexual procreation, where a new orginism begins to grow inside/along the outside, and is seperated out once it reaches a cetain size?

for example, the ameboid starts growing what looks like a tumor, a darker spot that grows inside, and eventually migrates outside and turns out to be a new ameboid.


or perhaps they have several methods? two ameboids might be able to merg for a period, and share genetic material, and both produce offspring (like many single celled orginisms), or they could do a direct cloning of themselves.
