You could write in a kind of 'self-destruct' that causes the body to rapidly decay once the Phantom's energy force has completely left the shell, thus preventing hijacking by a rival Phantom or someone else getting whatever technology was used to build the body.

I always had it as a clear white shell that slowly breaks apart...eventually disintegrating completely.
