Terminator and Splicers
Is it just me or has anyone else seen a close parallar from the Terminator movies. I mean, man vs. machine, the Flying Srike Ship looks like the Terminators flying assents, a computer bent on destorying mankind in Skynet and Nexus. They even have similar infotration tactis with human live like robots. I am not complaining about it or saying rip off, I was just wandering if anyone else have seen the similarities.
Only on the most basic level. I think what really makes Splicers such a unique standout is the fact that it's not an emotionless killing machine like Skynet, but a real character in and of itself. Obviously it is inspired by works like Terminator and Guyver, but Carmen has taken these elements and really added his own very creative touch.

i haven't been on here in a long while, but i was just talking to a friend of mine about those similarities. And i do agree with slappy, though with splicers there is more of a sense of hopelessness since humanity, in a way, is limited in how they can combat the threat...whereas skynet never concieved a nano-plague.

While Splicers is similar to Terminator, I also find that it's similar to the Matrix (yes, I realize Nexus doesn't "grow" humans)....which is similar to the Terminator....it goes on like this.
Splicer's has one thing that sets it apart from those two examples: Living weapons and armor. Thats a big enough difference for me to disregard the striking similarities.

Likewise, remember a cheif difference between Skynet & N.E.X.U.S.. Skynet was a non-sentient AI for defense that became selfaware. NeXus was already sentient & self aware, and was put in to replace human governments. Skynet did what it did out of an act of self preservation, NeXuS had a nervous breakdown. THe more faith people put in the machine, the more demands they made of it, the more conflicting their demands were.

Philosphically, very different.
SkyNet's war resulted from people not trusting machines,
N.E.X.U.S. resulted from people trusting in machines too much.
One stems from cold-war era paranoia about technology, the other stems from iPod generation overreliance on technology to live our lives for us.

But really who cares? After I sat down and started reading my splicers book I had to get back up for paper and pencil so I could make my first guyver suit, oops I mean bio-armor. I'm just waiting for my turn in my gaming group to run the heroes campaign so I can inflict the suit on one of the players along with hordes of retarded mutant freaks.
Same here Necro...
I make Host Armors based on the Zoanoids all the time too. Biotics based on the Zoalords i've seen. Its fun to see how they would work out.
Know what even more fun...
Bringing a Splicer House or three to RIFTS
Yes you heard me, to rifts earth. Just ditch the nano-plaque and the machine conflicts. I Place a House just off Florida underwater, another off the coast of Cubs maybe a quater mile offshore, and another Off the coast of Mexico at the Yucatan Peninsula. They have noticed Sometimes the are Near a shoreline and at other times their is no shore. So they travel East to the carribean instead. Some teams never come back from the Peninsula for some reason. Others report Vampires to the west, Only Host Armors/War Mounts/Biotics armed with Super-Light Cells are allowed to go there.
These Houses have been away from the "war against the machine for Just over 100 years. They have noticed years ago the nano-plaque isnt effecting them anymore. But they still use their Bio-tech over any machine just in case. These Three Houses Fight with each other as much as the help each other out. One Big Developement i had happen was 15 years ago, the Florida House got itself a new Warlord, a Biotic, a Smart and Ruthless Biotic. He is helped create a unique Noble Biotic OCC. Biotics with the Bio-E of Host Armors and gains Bio-E per level as one too.
I'm using the Biotic Warlord as either a focus for Players to fight and reestablish the Old ways and to end his experiments, or for them to agree it was wrong for Biotics to have been treated as Second Class citizens all this time. Of course the PCs could always just ignore it and explore Rifts Earth...

there's also a little neon genisis evangelion there as well. but the "there's nothing new under the sun" stands here too. Just because there are things that this may have been based on or that similiarites may be visible it doesn't mean that it isn't new and creative. the mix of the bio-plague as well as the engineers and librarians makes things really interesting and makes it originally, even if it was possibly based off two different things. mix sugar, flour, milk, egg and heat and you'll get some really nice sugar cookies that look only vaguely like their components.(there's a better example i could use here but it's dirty)

Well problems wiht machines in fiction is common. Lemme think.
we have Isacc Isimov I, Robot(mild but still some problems indeed), Blade Runner, Terminator, Battlestar Galactica(more close to Splcier in idea), Hal 2000 fro 2001 space odissey, Westworld, Metropolis(albeit not a truly mass menace), P.K Dick Screamers(Very close in mind to Splicers). Plus there is movie where a robitc house try to conveive a child with a trapped woman. Oh don't forget to add futuram to the soup, the robot planet is too fun and coudl give some silly ideas of how life in Machines cities is ...
Is me or we hacv esome inner fear of what0's goign to happen us in future? At least from western poitn of view, Japanes arer totally the opposite, totally fans of robots and computers!(thank god there are Japanese, life would be boring wihtout their crazy ideas)

Necro-
Guyver 2: Dark Hero is much closer to the original Cartoon, that was not at all cheesy & kicked serious bloodthirsty @$$ (some of the first solid arterial spray in anime). Which is based off the extremely gory original comic.

Guyver 1 the move was cheezy, yes. But fun.
Guyver 2 Dark Hero movie, was pretty cool. Spaceship in a mountain. Dark-Guyver Zoanoid kick ass.
Dune, Waterwold, Troy ( just picture Achilles as a Dreadguard ), the Cave ( underground monster/host armor/biotic ) and more...
each would bring a new face to the world of Splicers in some way.
Dune...Desert fighting and life.
Waterworld...Ocean fighting and life. ( warmount Turtle boats ? )
The Cave....underground life and encounters.
Troy...House vs House warfare.
