Martial Arts for Mutant Pandas
I have a player who wants to play a kung fu panda in After the Bomb, and I was thinking of combining one of the Martial Arts forms from N&SS or Mystic China.
The idea is that there was a panda preserve built in the Appalacian Mountains of West Verginia, and after the bomb a wandering martial arts teacher finds the mutant pandas and decides to teach them kung fu.
Do you think I should just give the player the generic HtH: Martial Arts, or do you think that N&SS would work?
After looking over my old N&SS book, I noticed that I would probably need to up the initial number of attacks (most start with only two) to balance it with the HtH skills as they are in AtB which start with 4 attacks per melee (except for assassin).
All suggestions are welcome.

Mostly, i'd just use HtH: MA. But that's because i try not to give it to too many characters to begin with. But a NSS style would probably work just fine. When i combine NSS styles with other games, sometimes i add "two attacks for living" to make them more formidable.
If i'm not mistaken, Erick made a short list of the probable martial arts to be found After the Bomb in the back of NSS...but maybe it was just suggestions for Palladium Fantasy... i'll check and get back to you...
You could also use the "HtH: Ninjitsu" from the TMNT game...

If you have the Rifts GMG or Rifts Japan, I'd suggest using one of the martial arts listed in those books. adding N&SS forms to one character can be very unbalancing. Of course, if you're gonna use N&SS for NPCs as well, go right ahead.

I wouldn't have an issue with such a character having Choy Li Fut.
I think you can incorporate the martial arts of N&SS and Mystic China easily.

Actually, I was thinking the same thing. I might modify it a bit, but keep it pretty much the same.
Not sure if I'll include the Chi aspect of the martial arts forms, but that could be interesting. One thought was to have several special scrolls stollen from the school that contain the different Chi manuvers and allow the character to learn these as he finds them. *shrug*

Not every style includes Chi (I don't recall right now, but I don't think Choy Li Fut does).
You could also attach a Bio-E cost to Martial Arts Powers, if there were a need to limit them in your game.
Maybe something like this:
Arts of Invisibility: 5 Bio-E each.
Atemi Abilities: 5 Bio-E each.
Body Hardenings: 5 Bio-E each.
Chi Mastery: 10 Bio-E each.
Martial Arts Techniques: 10 Bio-E each.
Special Katas: 0 Cost.
Zenjoriki Powers: 10 Bio-E each.
Just OTTOMH.

I nearly forgot about that.
As for the ballance issue, I could play it like the old Kung Fu movies where the kung fu parctitioners way outmatched everyone else which is why they alway ended up going up against 10:1 odds or greater.

I was thinking Choy Li Fut would work great for a bear character too! You are right, that the style doesn't use Chi, they only get to choose from Body Hardening and Special Katas.
Of course, they do have several weapon katas available, which can be unblanacing compared to other martial arts, but if guns are available, it wouldn't be that bad.
I can honestly say that I have never had an issue with martial arts weapons getting out of hand or creating a balance issue.

I have once. A player pulled out paired katanas against some unskilled thugs with clubs. He killed many of them in front of NPC bystanders, even cutting down a few from behind that were partially paralyzed by the Chin Na guy. It wasn't the WP kata fault though, just the overzealous player, who's character was arrested and had to broker a deal with a dirty cop to have evidence lost for his cash and one of his family swords. Boy was he mad at me!
He should have thought about that before he decided to become the whirling cuisneart of death.

theres an art (sorry can't remember the name) in mystic china that has a bear stance. Would seem good for a panda bear.

Choy Li Fut is the style with the Bear Stance.
I think it may have been reprinted in Mystic China, as were Shaolin, Tai Chi, and some others.

IIRC, there were some Chinese styles that did not get reprinted however: Wushu Tsung, Wui Wing Chun, Li Chia, and Chaun Fa.

True, but it's Mongolian, not Chinese. It being an Islamic style might also have made it hard to mesh properly with Mystic China's setting (even though it probably would have made a viable secondary style for practitioners of Liang Hsiung, if any of them were allowed to have secondary styles...).

That would have been close enough for me, really.

IIRC, the philosophical training wasn't Islamic. Or at least not overtly so ("Sufism", or something like that).
Really, N&SS needs to have martial arts from around the entire world.
And someone with more than a "green belt in Tae Kwon Do" and some Hungarian fencing should write them up.

I've long found the "Philosophical Training" in N&S to be far too limited and innacurate.
I've got an expanded list somewhere or other (several explained in more detail), I'll have to see if I can dig it out.

Not really, just a bunch of subtables broken down by region with different philosophies along with some paragraphs describing several elsewhere in my notes.
