i know it was asked before, but exactly what is affected by nanoplague?
All metals? and Metalloids/Semi-metals? Affect only alloys ? How do the nanomachine know when a human is touching metal?
Keep answers simple. My mind is slow today.

All industrial metals and effectively all living beings are affected by the nanoplague. The exact details on how the nanite programming works have never been given. Environmental armor will protect you as long as the seals hold but once they break the gig is up.

Silicon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silicium is obvioulsy not affected by Nanoplague, in almost all its forms, but what about Silicates http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silicate ?(I think no otherwise there would be no place on earth to hide)

Industrial metals only. Not crystals, not stones, not anything else - just industrial metals. The plague was meant to cripple humanity, not eradicate them.

ok silicon is safe and all its derivates, plasma(any conductive gas is called plasma) is too. hmm perhaps not all hopes for a DVd player are lost.
