I would go out on a limb and say that if, for example, a Neutral or Positive Energy matrix item or being is transported into a Negative Energy Dimension, then I'd allow - under an IQ check with maybe a -2 or -3 to the roll- the energy matrix type could be determined by a Sense Dimensional Anomaly Temporal Spell.

To answer your question in my opinion it can all be sensed by a Shifter if they roll successfully under their "Sense Dimension" Skill. All of the dimensional makeup will be known to them if they take the time to meditate and open themselves up to the dimensional nuances.

Thats my take on it. Anyone else feel free to chime in

hmmm, well by coincidence the viewer is a Shifter, but I'm thinking other spellcasters might get a chance too.

maybe I'll make that skill open to any Dimensional Traveller-type mage class and that should handle it.

You could always make a spell out of it.

Could use some TW device based on a the Temporal Spell, and perhaps Eyes of the Wolf as component spells.

since each dimension has it's own "energies" or "makeup" would it be possible for a Shifter (or other accomplished mage) to discern these ? (whether it be via a spell or OCC Skill, etc).

Maybe the Psionic ability Read Dimensional Portal could be of some use?

well, my take on the C-blob is that they're more like a blob of jello than some disgusting mold or slime you see in every other TV show. So it doesn't leave goop on you or a trail wherever it goes.

it's also reasonably intelligent has great senses, a defensive mechanism (spits acid) and can send and receive empathic signals...almost tailor made for the Pleasurer as a pet.

won't be a full-on familiar, but still a nice little friend.
