NEXUS will always have an altitude advantage for 2 reasons - oxygen rarity at altitude and the orbital weapon platforms. As odd as it seems, I've found Zephys to be more effective in combatting the NEXUS planes than the Draco because of their speed advantage and (at least in my group) propensity for Archangels to want them as "partners" in support operations.
Admittedly, I am curious to see what you've come up with to address the problem of breathing at the altitudes this idea would require.

Thats all well and good but larger creatures need signifigantly larger amounts of oxygen to function - it's a well documented fact that humans can't function above about 4 miles without oxygen tanks and most cant function above about 2 miles unless they actually live that high (Andes mountains notably).

You could create a mount that has organic jets. Check out "Alien Planet on either the science channel or the Discovery channel. There are some other great ideas for mounts there.
