I started a thread in the Rifts forum that I had thought was interesting. However, I should have posted it here.

Regarding the Rifter 12's blueprint of a Dragon (and acknowledging that the Rifter is not a canon source, this is just intended as an interesting thought)

If the source of a Dragon's magical abilities is, in fact, the specialized "PPE mitochondria" referenced in the article, by isolating Dragon DNA (through techno-wizardry), it might be possible to modify human DNA to an extent that Humans also utilize this special mitochondria and become Creatures of Magic as well.

Or, if it is possible, a particularly diabolical person could gather hundreds of Lord Magi and conduct experiments to discover the source of their transformation.

Or, by documenting what Alistair Dunscon and the mage from Rifts:Index did, it might be possible to create a similar outcome in another character.

Actually, I love soul leech!!!! That spell is so cool...

What doesn't work so well is defining what a lesser SN creature is (is a lanotaur a lesser SN).

Well, that would be nice...and a definition of lesser and greater demons (dyvilians are hard, as are Chinese/Japanese/Russian and Native American demons, and several of the supernatural races in Phase World)

I have not read the article in Rifter 12, but seeing you reference "PPE mitochondria" smacks too similar to "midichlorians" for comfort.... *shudder*

I would agree with that... the Atlanteans' genetic structure may have ever-so-slightly mutated after prolonged exposure to the magic-rich, original Atlantis... which now gives them longevity, extra height, additional PPE reserves, and ripped abs ;) They are still homo sapiens, and can thus breed with normal humans, but are more like homo sapiens magica.

Psi-stalkers have also "mutated" due to an influx of magic energy, so there is a precedent for this sort of thing.
