GM'ing for Newbies...

Unread post by NMI »

As some of you might know (if you are following the Megaversal Ambassador posts), I will be GM'ing Splicers @ Gencon.
Question with games suggested to be @ approx 2hrs in length, possibly 3, what type of general scenario do you think would work best?

I am working on pre-gen PC's and Subjugator is helping again.
PC - Dreadguard, x2 Roughnecks, Archangel, Biotic, Outrider. I will probably have some extra characters, including a Packmaster and possibly a Technojacker.

Any ideas on a generic/general scenario would be appreciated.

Two hours is really short for a game.

I would recommend 4 hour slots as a minimum, because by the time everyone settles down, gets character sheets, gets the speech on the rules and the world, you probably spent 45 minutes. Even a minor combat takes 1 hour. Remember, you have to explain EACH and EVERY power and ability on their sheet because they know nothing about the game. This will take time.

Pull anything from the Roleplay Idea thread, but even at four hours, you can only afford to have one combat scene.

If you plan to do a System Demo instead of an actual game, then you could probably do 2 hours, but I am not sure how much people will enjoy that. If you do 2 hours, you could just show them how the characters work and a sample combat so they can see the characters in action.

The sample characters sound good for a straight-up fight. My recommendation is to make 1st or 2nd level characters with the bare minimum Bio-E so they have a very limited array of powers. Tell this to the players so they know these are low-end characters and maybe bring a high-power character so they can see the difference. Tell them these are demo character so they can get the feel for the game without worrying about 20 different powers and abilities.

Again, I am worried about time which moves insanely fast during games.

Sounds like some winners there. I like what you both expressed! :-D
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."

"As you will it, your Grace."

Actually came up with something...

It will involve several areas (hopefully) of the Splicers world.

the team will be sent out to rescue a DNA retrieval team (team was sent out to retrieve genetic material from a Boneyard). The Boneyard is located in a Ghost-town. Due to the previous team being spotted in the town, several Necroborgs/Necrobots are patrolling the perimeter. So the first part of the mission will be to either A) Neutralize the perimeter patrol or B) sneak past said patrol. Describe the scenery, blah blah blah. Locate injured party. Then get out. Regardless some combat will ensue. major combat will be with some minor Machine presence.
