Splicers as setting vs. supplement
So I am due to be getting Splicers any day now, and I am curious what about this setting made it unique enough to be considered a different game line (a la Nightbane vs. BtS) from Rifts.
Why not a Dimension Book? I mean, Wormwood was pretty much that planet... And it is hinted that Phase World is just on the opposite end of the universe from Earth Variant X.
I am curious to see others' take on why Splicers was considered different enough from Rifts to warrant it's own line.

"Things aren't what they used to be" is the rallying cry of small minds. When men say things used to be better, they invariably mean they were better for them, because they were young, and had all their hopes intact. The world is bound to look a darker place as you slide into the grave.

Howso?
Just because it is a shade different (i.e. Wormwood) doesn't necessarily mean that it isn't the mayhemery that is Rifts.

Ah, but feel free to loot the creation tables(and those in Powers Unlimited Two) for ideas for biotechnology...That's what I primarily bought the book for...

And the Turning of a Page"

The world of Splicers is magically dead for one thing.
Plus the nanoplague is horribly technologically unfriendly.

If I wanted to I could have the goal of a campaign be to find a way to destroy the nanoid plauge, radicaly changing the world as it was written, and making one of the OCC's useless. In the end it's as I see it. As for Rifts, I couple have the CS really be an extention of The Machine on Rift's Earth, attempting to create a world ready for Machine dominance. Nothing like how either book intended, but it's my desition to make it that way.
Your answers don't relate to the question. In order to have meaningful disussions we all need to use canon as our framework - anyone could take a seed from Splicers and use it to go off on a completely homebrewed tangent, but that doesn't help the thread starter who is interested in Splicer as a distinct setting.

Because they thought it was going to take off/sell better/sell enough to be worth it's own line iirc. They pumped the hell out of it for a while, if memory serves.

Something else I had not considered. But that would almost make me think that it would work better as a supplement to an existing game line (one that has sold better than all others) than a stand-alone.
