TMNT Adventure - Assault on Santa's Workshop

Unread post by jgants »

So I was watching Scrooged the other night, and was inspired by the fake TV movie, "The Night the Reindeer Died" to create a wacky adventure for the old TMNT rules using terrorists attacking Santa's workshop, and it being defended by mutant ninja reindeer. Here's what I came up with:

Assault on Santa’s Workshop
Adventure Scenario

Player Background
All of the players will be playing the part of Santa’s mutant reindeer. Unbeknownst to most, Santa’s reindeer are actually mutants created by Santa’s magic from a stock of caribou that his cousin, Mortimer Claus, keeps in Alaska. Because of the constant threat to Christmas from disgruntled elves, evil magicians, and monstrous snow creatures, Santa personally trained the team in the ninja arts.

Player Scenario Information
The characters are all members of Santa’s elite sleigh team. It’s Christmas Eve.

While loading up the sleigh, Santa and his dozen elves come under attack by terrorists firing weapons into the workshop. The primary sleigh is destroyed. The reindeer team must spring into action to defend Christmas.

Their objectives:
1. Delay the terrorists from entering the workshop to give Rudolph enough time to get Santa safely to the spare sleigh sitting at the reindeer stables.
2. Prevent the terrorists from destroying the workshop, presents, and sleigh.
3. Get back to the sleigh in time to deliver presents.

Game Master Background
The terrorists are part of an organization wanting to strike down the symbol of Christmas, for their own twisted purposes. They want to kill Santa along with all the elves and reindeer, and destroy Santa’s workshop. They plan on filming the entire thing and broadcasting the footage when they are done, to show the world there is no more Santa.

The exact identity and ideology of the terrorist group is left up to the individual game master. Perhaps they are a religious organization fighting against the oppression of the Christian Christmas, or even Christian terrorists fighting against the secularization of the holiday. They could also be economic terrorists – striking out against the symbol of rampant commercialism. Or they could just be nuts, and think that by taking out Santa they can get the most media coverage for their insane cause.

The terrorists are well organized into several strike teams.

Camera Team
The camera team is composed of two men – one carrying a camera and the other doing the talking. Both of them carry Makarov 9mm pistols (range 160 ft / 8 shots / 2d6). Their objective is to film the battle and brag about how successful they are at wiping out Santa.

Advance Platoon
The advance platoon is composed of around 2 dozen soldiers armed with AK-47 assault rifles (range 900 ft / 30 shots / 4d6). Their objective is to wipe out anyone they can and clear the area to get the weapons squad into position.

Weapons Squad
The weapons squad is composed of two three-man teams. One of the men carries an AK-47 assault rifle. The second man carries a pistol and the RPG ammo (3 rockets). The third man carries a RPG-7 rocket launcher (range 980 ft / 1 shot / 4d4x10 to a 50 ft area). Their objective is to destroy the workshop. If they fail, the suicide bomb team will be activated.

Suicide Bomb Team
The suicide bomb team is a two-man team – one driver and one bomb detonator. They will be driving a half-track truck loaded with explosives (currently, they are parked at the staging area). They will head straight into the middle of the workshop then detonate (4d6x100 to a 500 ft area).

Recon Squad
The recon squad is composed of six soldiers on snowmobiles, each carrying an AKSU-74 submachine gun (range 650 ft / 30 shots / 2d6). They will be driving around the combat perimeter. If they learn Santa has left the workshop, they will be out looking for him.

Anti-Aircraft Team
The anti-aircraft team is a single three-man team operating on a hillside near the combat area. They are dug into a snow foxhole, and are prepared to fire on Santa’s sleigh if it tries to fly out of the area. One of the men carries an AK-47 assault rifle. The second man carries a pistol and the Grail ammo (3 missiles). The third man carries the SA-7B Grail missile launcher (range 3 mi / 1 shot / 1d6x100 / 90% hit probability).

Platoon HQ
The leader of the terrorist forces is coordinating the attacks, over radio, from his hovercraft vehicle parked nearby, just off of the Arctic sea. He is armed with a pistol, along with the driver and navigator for the hovercraft. As guards, he also has two soldiers with assault rifles.

Weapons/Equipment: Donner likes to charge in blazing with his MP-6 H&K submachine gun (range 650 ft / 30 shots / 4d6), then take on enemies hand to hand using his paired Katana (3d6+8 ) and Wakizashi (2d6+8 ).

Personal Profile: Blitzen is the youngest member of the sleigh team, and the most unsure of herself. She overcompensates for this by presenting a tough image. Part of the reason of her uncertainty is the result of a disastrous attempt to rescue relatives out of the Soviet Bloc in the early 80’s. She finds a kindred spirit in the wild Donner.
Weapons/Equipment: Blitzen is the sniper of the team, and carries a 7.62mm RAI Convertible sniper rifle (range 4200 ft / 5 shots / 5d6). But when not sniping a target, she likes to rush in with her twin Aikucchi daggers (1d6) and shuriken (1d4).

Cute. Not at all my cup of tea, but cute.

By the way AKSU-74 is chambered for the 5.45x39mm cartridge. Ballistically about the equivilant to 5.56x45mm (.233) that the M-16 fires. I would up the damage to the same as an M-16.

I really like this. Its funny I had been playing around with this idea for AoB. But didn't know how I wanted to do it. But this is cool, nice job.

Candy canes that morph into scythes.
Fair warning: I consider being called a munchkin a highly offensive slur and do report people when they err in doing so.

'Reality is very disappointing.' - Jonathan Switcher from Mannequin

It's 'canon', not 'cannon'. A cannon is a big gun like on pirate ships, canon is what you mean when referring to something as being contained within one of the books such as how many dice to roll for a stat.

personally i'd suggest that instead of caribou in alaska, you put mortimer in northern Finland with a herd of Finnish Forest Reindeer (R. tarandus fennicus)... the reindeer and sleigh element of the santa claus visual was a drawn from finnish yuletide traditions after all, and the finnish forest species is one of the smallest, fitting "the night before christmas" stories description of "8 tiny reindeer". (likewise the 'classic look' of santa's elves as little people with red and green clothes and big caps was due to the swedish tomte/finnish tonttu, which were 'house elves' that would help out around a home if treated nicely. the tomte/tonttu are now a big part of scandinavian yuletide traditions.)

a minor quibble though.

Nice. or Cute as Grey Death said.

No outer Mutant defenders,
SWAThem polar bears.
Snow mound turns into large white bear.
"WANK!!! WHAM!!!
"Where he come from?"
"Her! Your %%#@& softskins!!" with a couple damaging paw swings.
Gunfire from smaller mounds. "Covering you mom."
Ice breaks open in several places.
Several more LARGER armed bears surface, firing Machine guns!!
"You started without us, again!!"

other mutants helping on defend or work shop helpers - SEAL: as in some from SEa, other Air and Land

reminds me of the latest episode of The Big Bang Theory. Except they were playing D&D.

*Brings over Mordred from Mutants in Avalon*

"Dancer, Vixen, Cupid, Blitzen, how's it going?"

OP doesn't include stats for Rudolph. Is Rudolph also a ninja? If so, Little Fighter already did that.

It's also not clear how Santa has survived to his old age. Does he also have Longevity like the reindeer? Or maybe something bigger like Immortality?

When you say Longevity, did you buy the minor super ability from Powers Unlimited 1 via the 40 bio-E cost for all minors given in HU's mutant animals section?

Also looking at the ages and something mentioned... Dasher's led the team for 'over 200 years'. Let's just round that down to 200 years for this purpose... that means he 'led the team' when he was 3 years old.

Santa is "hundreds of years" old. Presumably he can't be 200, since Dasher could not have led his team if Santa didn't exist, so Santa must be at least 300 years old, though that's only assuming he's an even number... With Mrs. Claus being 330, either she is the older woman, or else Santa might be 400. Assuming 300 though, this means Santa didn't begin his reindeer sled team until he was 100 years old?

Some fridge horror here when looking in the statement about Dasher and looking at the other deer's ages. All of the other reindeer are under 200 years old. If Dasher "led the team for over 200 years" that means the team he initially led must have consisted of OTHER reindeer.

What happened to them? Did they die? Killed by the winter warlock?

I like Tor's observations. Perhaps I need to write up a "second edition" for the scenario, lol. The truth is, of course, that I just didn't think about most of those things at the time I wrote it up.

I'm glad people still find my post/scenario idea interesting after so many years.

I wonder if anyone ever tried playing out the scenario. I, myself, tried to interest players several times, but the people I've played with over the years always found it too cartoony of a concept.

I'm using the concept for this with my family over the Christmas break.

Our group will receive a 'Mayday' call from far to the north and be dispatched to see if they can lead aid.

They'll actually get shot down by the anti aircraft team as they approach the "Workshop" and bail out of their plane/chopper. On the ground they'll gather intel (Capture a terrorist and question him/her) and find out about the attack on Santa and the workshop.

They will naturally go and lend aid.

Instead of playing the Reindeer, they'll be playing their own mutant animals, and the Ninja Reindeer will be defending the work shop in a seige sort of set up.

I DO plan on bringing in polar bear mutants for backup. Love the image of the momma polar bear wading into them and being 'covered' by the cubs under the snow with rifles. lol.

Our group is only 3 mutants so they can use the help against 30 or more terrorists.

As a one shot, stand alone, I think my family will have a ball. Wanted to bump this so it can get some attention. The stuff about ages and all don't bother me. It's not like my group are going to sit them all down and write a biography of the mutant reindeer. lol.

For some reason I'm envisioning Rudolph as a huge Arnold Swartzineiger type mutant reindeer... or a very small poindexter type. Not sure yet. Either way could work and be funny.

I'm also seriously considering Santa bursting out of the workshop riding a Trex....... .

Too much?

Can't wait to hear how this turns out.

The more I think about it, I could really turn it into a whole campaign setting.

Random additions I've been thinking of:
* A local clan of disgruntled polar bears (perhaps they are eco-terrorists, blaming global warming for melting their territory or whatnot).
* Two words - "Ninja Penguins" (I know, penguins only live at the south pole but I claim dramatic license)
* Two more words - "Abominable Snowman"
* A Jack Frost / Snow Queen type / Ice Witch / whatever ice-type enemy with snow/ice powers (from Heroes Unlimited)
* A crazy elf who tries to create mecha-reindeer that turn evil
* "Mutant toys" that revolt after not being selecting by children
* A rivalry with the Easter Bunny (mutant rabbit) over Christmas being more popular, complete with intrigues

I'll have to think some more. Perhaps one day I can write the full "After the Bomb: North Pole" setting book.

I'd see the Penguins as "Spies" Like 007 type spies... in tuxes. lol.

Gotta have the 'Bumble. *nods*

Mecha-nuts-reindeer is fun. Maybe for a follow up adventure. Maybe the 007 Penguins broke in and uploaded malware in the Mecha-reindeer.

Yes! They're from the SOUTH pole! Not the north! That's why they don't like Santa
