So I was reading that piece on those "blended metal" bullets
...
and in the process I read they were just "moly coated" ordinary lead bullets. So I don't know what moly coating is, and I just can't find what that exactly means... (can somebody help?)
But in the process, I stumbled on the dragon skin body armor... and I read rave reviews about humongously successful tests, like it resisting even .308 bullets fired from a sniper rifle, or 30 9mm impacts in a tight pattern from a 5 ft range, or even multiple rifle round impacts, both 5.56 and 7.62...
Is it really that good? Can modern body armor be made that is that good?

Moly is
Molybdenum Disulfide
Another application is for coating bullets, giving them easier passage through the rifle barrel with less deformation and better ballistic accuracy.

Well it seems that
Dragon Skin may not be all it claims to be.
I do know of a member on another forum that was shot five times at close range with an AK-47. His Interceptor vest with trama plate held and the Tango was introduced to a M-249 SAW.
Still modern body armor is getting better.

I ride along with my dad (police officer) occasionally. His old vest doesn't fit me well. Any ideas on a new, good vest that I could buy? I'm looking in the $1k range.

A real vintage AK 47 (7.62), or the baby brother AK 74 (5.56)? Even though 7.62x39 Sov is cut down compared to 7.62 NATO, the round still has respectable preformances . The newer round is a cutdown of the Western 5.56, and relatively low enregy, even for a small caliber rifle round.

To my knowledge, the Iraqis use AK-47/AKMs in 7.62 rather than AK-74s in 5.45.

thanks for the end user statement Wolfe. Usually the only thing you hear about Military equipment is from people with agendas.
I have tried on the Flak Jacket that was replaced by IBA and the IBA system is a vast improvement. If Dragonskin body armor is an equivlent improvement I personally want it shipped out to a couple friends in the sandbox ASAP.
