I summon the GM gods! Help Needed!

Calling all Palladium GMs!

I have posted a thread http://forums.palladium-megaverse.com/viewtopic.php?t=73509 called "Help Make Characters for the Open House" and I wanted to cross post here in the GM forum because we need the assistance of GMs coming and not coming to the Open House.

Here's the idea. As we know, making characters is fun, but takes a huge chunk of time. The Open House will have many pickup games and it would be great if the players could just cut and paste fully developed, fully statted characters to be printed out. Also, it would help the GMs immensely to have fully ready to go NPCs.

Most GMs have lots of characters on file - if you have some favs that are ready to print, please visit the thread and post some goodies.

You're welcome to them. Most are moderate level say 3rd to 5th.

Actually I just checked and have almost 350 fully made characters, the last time I did a mass export was a year or two ago.

Some are "quickie tests" and characters I started that never went anywhere, but the majority are decently made and relatively well thought out.

CSPhrett used to post dozens and dozens of characters and there's another guy down inthe HU forum who made all the Deevils/Demons in HU that posts quite a bit (edit it's Mephisto)

So if they need more...

You're probably a pretty good GM though if you go into that much detail for your NPCs. I'll be the first to admit, that unless it's a major NPC I tend to just make a half assed sheet that just covers specific attacks, bonuses etc at best. For cannon fodder I dont even do that, they just get Armor X, Weapon X, X reloads and bonuses.

Next it looks to see if you have SPELLS, PSIONICS or SUPER POWERS and allows you to choose the appropriate number for a 1st level character. (all the choices are for a first level character).

Then BIONICS, CYBERNETICS and WEAPONS.

Then you have a first level PC. Then you go in and bump up the levels (it'll bump up PPE, ISP, SDC, MDC and HP and you go along) or you can bump it up to 4th, then back down to 2nd. It'll remember the numbers and save them, stepping back down.

Then you can go into SKILLS and set the level for each skill individually, that way when you're 6th level and add a new skill it starts at 1st. You can also do things like ADD +1 level to every skill so all the 4th become 5th and all the 1st become 2nd, that way when you level up, you're not clicking forever on that Cyber-Knight. You can also edit and change the skills % and bonus. So if your campaign has a skill not in the books, you simply pick another, then change it to fit.

It works pretty good, can't handle everything and I haven't done much with RUE. For instance it can't handle a character with multiple forms (two sets of attributes). However it's quite easy to just make a copy and then alter the 2nd version so that it reflects the were-form or whatever. It still requires the books and knowledge of PB.

You can export to HTML, Text or this BBS in a few button pushes and have the character I posted at your finger tips. You can also make copies and keep a version of your character at each level, just in case you're running a Time Travel campaign or something...and it's always good to back up with computers anyway.

It runs off MSIE and uses XML as the database, as both of those come free with most versions of Windows. It's not web-based, it's just easier to use the browser do display data. It's written in Winbatch language. Took about 6 months to create back in 2003. I got tired of taking 2 hours to make a character in Rifts.

I can make a template in 10-20 minutes and a full character in about the same. Needless to say, I've made 100s and 100s of templates and characters.



uuuhhhmmmm... wow!!!! Gadrin, you are totally devoted (or perhaps the poster earlier was right, and you're insane, lol). I wish I had the expertise to do something like that. (Your computer programming skill must be at, like, 85% or so, at least!) 8)

Its yer proggie, PB complain if you wanna host it on yer own domain for free distrib and the enjoyment of all? Prolly cause it uses copywrited terms (Burster, Ley Line, etc)... Oh well...
I my self made a little spread sheet to do some of the math automatically for me and drop in standard skills based on xCC. But its not terribly advanced and only saves me a moderate amount of time... Thus I only have 10 characters made up for the OH. I'll get crackin on some more, taking a personal day today from work.

that is amazingly azzaholic.i mean, it's so anal retentive....i can't even express it in words. the damn characters take HOURS to make. it's just not cool. i love rifts and such but i just cant stan making characters. i just bs npc's. its kinda sad how half assed i've become because of that rule.........now that im done ranting i have an idea.........can you email that generator!? to peoplez!?(edit: nvm i just read the word distribution....keep the email a secret)

why not try submitting it to palladium or emailing kevin it would be ultra awesome if they did a special rue with it packaged along with it


I don't recall the exact ruling on unsolicited submissions, but if that's allowed, I think it'd be really cool. If they didn't want to deal w/ the special edition stuff, maybe they'd just make it available for straight download for a few bucks off the store? Of course free would be cool too, but seems unlikely.
