The oldest (and maybe dumbest) question

Hey all! Great to finally have the internet back after almost 6 months

I'm making a heroes unlimited character with 18 weapons kung fu, but a little fuzzy on how many attacks the character recieves

first most of th N&SS martial arts start with 2 attacks per melee, kind of blinked at that, 2 attacks per fifteen seconds? So I assume that this was meant to mean 2 attacks in addition to the two all characters "typicaly" recieve (so four attcaks per melee for most of those arts, still only an attack every 3.5 seconds, but I can at least imagine it)
But then again I'm reading a 6th printing of an edition that dosne't say "revised" (if there was one) but didn't the N&SS book says it WAS two--period to start?

So I start looking through other books
In N&SS 18 weapons kung fu says "starts" with three attcaks, while Rifts China has four to start, now even given the MDC world of Rifts. Rifts China characters lose an attack when they leave the country right?

Chambara from Gramercy Island has Zanji Shinjinken-Ryu at fifth level and 6 attcaks per melee, Zanji by N&SS is normaly 5 attacks at that level with a +1 for a strength and endurance character. So he supports N&SS "as written"

BUT Scslibrus from the same book has 5 attacks at level three knowing Liang Hsiung KUNG fU, when he should only have 3 according to N&SS (giving credence to the "add 2" theory

plus Gong Feng from Century station should have 5 attacks for his 8 level Triad assassin training, but is listed at 7

lastly regardless of who created those characters, the "agent" martial arts in N&SS (which by the way regarless of number of attacks seem very inferior ) are exactly 2 attacks less at 15th level then thier HU2 counterparts

So did I answer my own question? Or is there something I'm missing?

N&S MA styles were writen to be used 'as is' for APM totals. They were also written long enough ago that the infamous TAFL weren't a factor. If you plan to use N&S with a newer system you'll need to either add 2APM to all styles (and there will be some serious uglyness with some of the 'fast attack' styles) or drop 2 APM from the H2H skills of the newer setting.

By canon, they don't get TAFL. Don't confuse the martial arts styles in N&S and MC with the hand to hand skills from Rifts. NPCs don't follow the rules, so they aren't a factor.

However, it's your game, so if you feel they deserve more attacks, feel free to add TAFL. (I don't but then I've dropped TAFL for everything, while it does make less sense given a 15 second melee round, it makes a lot more sense given the huge difference between the one attack of an character untrained in combat vs the four attacks (or three) you essentially get for learning a hand to hand skill, keeping in mind that Automatic combat moves don't count toward the total number of things a character can do in a melee round.)

had me scratching my head too but believe TAFL + Two Attacks First Level, meaning that HU characters (and most other palladium characters get a base 2 attacks per melee even if not trained in combat

TAFL, abbreviation
Two Attacks For Living, the two attacks every hero receives, depending on what game is being played. [KS]

fromthe Palladium Terminology ProjectAnyway, yeah NSS/MC characters just get the listed number of attacks in the martial art (don't add two).

And i have to echo that NPCs are never a good way to prove rules, especially in this case. Most (all?) Palladium authors have a tenuous (at best) grip on N&SS...
