RPGA........

Unread post by jade von delioch »

So i was wondering if there was anything like the RPGA out there that had nothing to do with D&D?..
The reason i ask is that the idea of such an organization is beneficial to the community as a whole for stability and growth, but its all one sided since the only game system that is really sponsored is D&D/D20..

If there is nothing else out there is it possible for the major Palladium Fans to build their own group that can someday rival the RPGA?

What you are looking for can be found in the Megaversal Ambassadors forum.

No organization is gonna be rivalling the RPGA any time soon, because no other company is gonna be rivalling WotC's share of the market any time soon. Even White Wolf (second biggest company in the market, only company other than WotC to have a double-digit percentage of market share, and incidentally a company that runs its own rather succesful event-organizing group) would need to be at least two or three times bigger than it is now to rival WotC, and poor ol' Palladium is only a couple of steps up from being small enough to be considered an indy.

Palladium if FAR from an indy publisher, or even being a few steps up.

One doesn't sell 100,000+ copies of a single book, much less several books, keep almost all titles (50+ books) in print at once and hang around 25+ years and be an indy publisher.

They're in the top 5.

YEs, no one is as big as WotC. They are the industry, period. So goes D&D so goes the hobby. Sad but true.

even with all that in mind, if there was an organization like the RPGA but that had nothing to do with D20/D&D would be good... just all other rpgs being the main focus..

There is an unofficial branch forum starting up that is a collaborative work of multiple GMs who's intent is to create a unified setting much like the RPGA's Living City and other living type settings available at http://livingmercenaries.no-ip.org/PBlang/index.php if you are so inclined to check it out.

The people there some of the best from the Digi Chat gaming crowd and have been involved in a single chat based game there for almost 9 months now that runs off the viewtopic.php?t=66314 thread, just now approaching 200 posts.

Top 5 doesn't mean much. WotC has considerably more than half the market. WW has a little under a fifth. The rest of the top five have maybe 3-7% of market share each. Palladium's one of the grand old dames of the industry, and its had some impressive moments in its time, but right now its only big compared to the rest of the also-rans. It also doesn't help that the recent financial problems mean they had to pull a lot of their catalog out of print for a while to focus mainly on core books and new supplements for their biggest lines, or that they haven't managed to put out a new RPG that's been an enduring success since Rifts.

I don't disagree with that Rallan.

Back to the topic...
It would be nice if there was an RPGA-esque type of environment that was open to all game systems with a half dozen being a main focus and each one had a "living" setting.
