Just one of those days

Wednesday was just one of those days that got away from me.

It started when I slept in this morning till 8:00 AM (I usually get up at 6:00 or 6:30 AM). Then “Albie” was out in the backyard and I spent an hour and 20 minutes waiting and stalking to get some good photographs of him. That meant I didn’t get to the office until 10:30 AM.

"Albie” is the name my girlfriend, Kathy Simmons, has given the albino squirrel who lives in one of the trees in our backyard. He (she?) is one of the coolest creatures we've ever seen. Albino squirrels are extremely rare and supposed to be a sign of good fortune if you “see” one. We’re hoping if seeing one is good luck, that having one living in your backyard is an especially good sign and spells good things for Kathy, me and Palladium Books in the future.

The rest of the day seemed to be taken up catching up with people and one meeting, discussion, e-mail and telephone call after another. I answered something like 20 e-mails, half of them with artists I met at Gen Con.

Then came the cavalcade of telephone calls, most of which involved business or business plans going on behind the scenes. First, I spent time talking with the Palladium crew, namely Wayne, Hank and Julius. Then Teresa Mead called. Then Erick Wujcik called. Then the printer called. Then Thom Bartold popped in the office to give us a hand with some things and I chatted with him for awhile. Then I called Kathy. Then Mark Dudley called. He’s working on a project that if it works out, will blow you all way. Sorry, I can’t reveal it yet, and neither can he, but it is awesome. (Keep your fingers crossed. You too, Albie!). We hope to know enough details to talk about it next year. Oh, and Apollo Okamura called, but Wayne took that call, and Alex fielded a few others.

Unfortunately, this all means I did not have time to write my Gen Con Report (and a press release to follow a couple days later), so it will have to appear tomorrow, Thursday, August 23.

I can tell you Gen Con Indy was fun and rewarding. Sales were good and the debut of Hades was a kick.

The reaction to Rifts® Dimension Book 10: Hades, Pits of Hell continues to be overwhelmingly positive and sales are strong. Heck, we sold something in the neighborhood of 15 copies just in last night’s online orders. We’ve also started to get reorders for the Zeleznik art book. Cool.

Darn, it's already too late to hit the comic shop. And I better get home to dinner. More tomorrow when I plan to get an early start. Have a good night. By the way, we also have at least two Flying Squirrels who come to feed in our backyard at night. I didn’t even know Michigan had Flying Squirrels!!! (Mich and most of the Eastern USA, does.) They’re nocturnal, cool as all get out, and we have pictures of them too. Maybe I’ll start a Kathy’s Menagerie board or something to share the fun. Gotta run.
