Talisman

When using the Talisman spell does the object have to be a some sort of amulet, or can any inanimate object work?

I wouldn't require an amulet, per se, but I would require a worked object of some kind. Stick picked up off the ground 5 minutes before casting? No. Stick picked up after rejecting several as unsuitable, smoothed, and carved with runes? Yes.

The spell requierments for the talisman physical component, are stated in the spell discription.

"It can be made from almost anything"

"The only subsatance(s) which cannot be used is Iron (and plastic), and the object cannot be more then 2' in any dimention."

Another thing, the way the spell is structured you cast the spell (at 500 PPE) on the object to turn it into a Talisman. Then the mage cast it a 2nd time (at 50 PPE & Spell PPE) to empower the talisman.

Thanks Drewkitty. I've been too lazy to go upstairs and check the wording. That said, I would still require some degree of shaping or specialness for the spell to work... painting a rock, carving a stick, etc.

I didn't realize that Talisman held spells, I thought it was only extra P.P.E.

I'll have to re-read that spell.

Probibly because most of the time the Talisman spell is brought up in the boards is in reference to PPE batteies.

Because it is the most commonly available PPE battery. However, there are references to Talismans as spell-casters... and pre-RUE, this was a very useful trait, since you could fire off spells in a single action.

Though they are still very usefull for though 6-8 level spells. Which personally level 8 spells are the best in my mind. Still cheap, but very powerfull.

Wait, wait- there's a Milk and Cookies Spell? Sign me up! :fl: :ok:

a variant of the create milk & bread spell... see Through the glass darkly for spell creation rules.

If I had to make it off the cuff

Create Milk and Cookies
Level 7
Range: near caster/10'
Duration: perm
saving throw: None
PPE: 15

Creates one single serving bottle of milk and three napkin wrapped home baked cookies (no OREOs or other mass produced cookies) per level of the mage.

:D that turned out good for off the cuff....adding it to the invented spells topic.
