Going threw some of my older NPC's for older runs ( I flesh them out entirly for the most part at least ) I ran across Galvin Mcgonnor , An insain Serpant of the Wind (thought he was an Elf who was under some ancient curse that turned him into a dragon every so often ) His Rune Weapon was a shield . I was recently going to create more NPC's for a new campaign I an writting now an thought about this . How would one go about possibly trying to make a Shield be able to create various types of Circles .. instantly . Obviously the shield itself is Circlular as well lol . Or perhaps being able to magically cal certain types of magic circles into being where ever the Summoner Wanted .
Curious as to your guys thoughts on this whole concept .

All right Lenwen. Here's my two bits on something not to do with vampires! lol My first thought when I heard your idea was a perfectly round shield that is completely blank of any ornamentation until the Summoner needs its help. It would have some kind of mental link to the mage so that he can think of a circle (only circles he has knowledge of, of course!) and the circle will magically appear upon the shields surface, drawing instantly off of the Summoner's PPE to activate the magic. Limits him/her to one circle at a time, but could be very handy in a pinch.

SWEET ass idea's peeps for real I am going to try it out in game on an NPC of mine , I just need a bit of say direction on how to explain how the rune shield is inscribed in a way so that the circle is actually usable to my NPC. Would be kewl if this was one of the "ancient " lost magics from the time of a thousand magic's haha The way I am thinking of making it so is that the Bieng trapped in the Rune shield was actually a demigod or Godling of some power who had known all circles but the Rune magic that placed him into the shield is such that he can only cast the circle magic that the player knows themselves , alternatly the curse I am thinking about installing upon this rune shield is thusly , Every single time the shield is used there is a 1-10% chance of inflicting a Random Insanity . Upon the 6 month bonding with the shield the % then goes up to 1-20% chance of said insanity . Course I might need to alter that a bit in the future will check that out in tonights play test .
