THE ONE wrote:Okay, not sure if saw it or read somewhere but is there a ruling or rule the helps very strong or large things (Robots, Giants, etc.) that had a spell cast at them like Carpet of Adhesion and or similar spells that hold you from doing anything.
For example, I don't see how a low spell like Carpet of Adhesion can stop something with a 51-60 Strength so easy even if the Gaint makes its saving throw, I could see this working on weeker foes maybe 35 Super Natural and Robotic Strength and below. My encounter for the group was very taken out and thought about it seen the potential of these spells and how deadly they are to even very strong and or large roboit units.
What do other GM's do, just bite the bullet like I did or is there something I missed?
Thanks
There are two takes on CoA (more, really, but two takes on this particular subject):
Take 1- The spell creates a physical, unbreakable carpet that is incapable of being moved or destroyed. Under this interpretation, strength doesn't matter; you can't get free until the spell description lets you.
Take 2- The spell simply makes an area of ground (or whatever the surface is) really sticky. Under this interpretation, a strong enough being could tear up the surface material. It would still be sticky, though, so this wouldn't do them much good unless they're either capable of flight (or otherwise avoiding putting a foot back down once it's free) or right on the edge of the sticky area.
Personally, I think the first take is bizarre and overpowered.

I personally find it hilarious that given the chance to clarify/balance Carpet of Adhesion in RUE, Palladium made it even more powerful! According to the RUE version, you can't even teleport out of it, you only take it with you.

There is the "Sticky Feet" spell which is a weaker varient of the CoA, which says that it doesn't effect those with SNPS and larger vehicals walking through a patch of it. The Sticky Feet spell is in the back of the AU GAlaxy Guide book.

Myself, I've never had an issue with it.
Super-Strong characters are simply stuck for the duration.
I might make exceptions for characters such as Thor, Hercules, and some others: the exception being contingent on the characters (A) being super-strong (not like vampires, but really mythically powerful), and (B) being gods or supernatural creatures (and/or creatures of magic, like adult dragons).
I've found the need to house-rule Saving Throws for mages and magic in my own games, but CoA wasn't something I had a problem with either way.

what if two people are on it and one teleports?
How about if you cast it on yourself? does the area affect come with it?
What if two people teleport off it at the same time?

sounds good all round guys.
Magic is magic. stuff physics (i mean magic is, essentially, the antithesis of physics)
That said, it gives the GM some leeway too (no phill, you cannot wrap the carpet of adhesion around the glitterboy..it doesn't do it in the spell description)
What if you destroy the surface you are standing on? If My spider walker has one leg stuck on the ground, can I do some megadamage to the ground and simply step off? I mean a couple of Megadamage from a grenade should make a crater larger than the surface area (and the ground isn't, ideally, a megadamage object). would I be stuck in midair?
That said, If Johnny Speed hits a carpet of adhesion can he simply take his boots off and leap off the carpet? (does it bind through shoes? boots? socks? stilts? I presume if I'm in a glitterboy I'm not bound just because my 1 ton powersuit is? How about if My glitterboy fires his boomgun on a CoA without sinking pilons?
Too many questions I think. *handwaves* 'These are not the rules you are looking for'

Apparently, they take the area that's holding them, with them, so whereever they go, they're just stuck again. The number of people involved don't really matter - they're not taking the whole carpet with them, just the parts under their feet.

I've always said that if you destroy the surface the spell is affecting, that you can free yourself.
Which does no good if the spell is cast on
you.

Removing boots (or whatever) should also work.
As long as you're close enough to the edge to actually get out.
I presume if I'm in a glitterboy I'm not bound just because my 1 ton powersuit is?
Agreed.
How about if My glitterboy fires his boomgun on a CoA without sinking pilons?
He shouldn't need the pylons with a carpet of adhesion.

Can the juicer still auto-dodge direct attacks by swaying and moving, even though stuck?
I have traditionally ruled that the Juicer cannot auto-dodge if stuck in a CoA.

Yeah, that's how my group ruled it before, but I may change my mind and just give them a hideous penalty to the auto-dodge if it ever comes up again. They are juicers after all.
Long time, no see, Sentinel. Where have you been hiding?
I left a short version of the story over in Sound Off.
Basically, I had real-life issues to tackle, and took a little time away from the Boards.
I started to see some changes in my daily life, and found a little time and motivation to post once more.
It's good to be back, even if I am not posting 100+ times a day.

This is the first time I've ever done something in a game that caused the GM to post something on the Forums. (Weeps) I'm so proud.

Had one techno wizard cast it on the seat of his motorcycle so he couldn't be dismounted unless he dispelled it...
Had another cast it on the broad side of a spiny ravager so that when it got knocked onto it's side, it pulled up a lot of dirt and stuff, as the dirt was stuck to IT and not IT to the dirt.
Had one cast it on the back of a giant robot, then launched himself onto it and stuck to the robot and got a free ride through some dangerous terrain.
Love it when peeps come up with nifty ideas for spells such as those . Not just the hackem an slashem ways .
As for the juicer thing I played a regular juicer back in the day when I can CoA cast upon an area I jumped into ( middle of combat) I ended up deing due to blood loss cause my legs got blown off haha . Stupid Crazy friend of mine thought he could shoot the ground from under my feet to set me free .. (botched rolls) so yeah that was the last time I played a juicer ..
