You could take only 3 books to your game sessions, which 3?

Unread post by bigbobsr6000 »

Just curious. I have to had limit it to 3 before due to backpack space or brief case space plus other gaming junk like dice, notes, paper, character sheets, etc. I don't have to limit it to just three now, but there was a time due to totting by walking there or bus ride or sometimes I just didn't feel like lugging dozen or more books to the session. They do get heavy after a while.:-D

My 3 now would be:

1. GMG
2. RUE, 2nd printing
3. Book the campaign is set in or closest to it.

So, what's yours?
Mephisto: You have some morbid fantasies. I like it (okay)
pblackcrow:"If anyone deserves this it's you! (thwak) LOL...All in fun."
Natasha: Bob you're deadly. I like it.
Misfit KotLD: You're Gamer Bi-Polar.
Sanford: Excellent concept, Big Bob!
sasha: I think Bob gets the JUST A GAME award....for life.
Jerell: You sir, are ruthless, and that is why I like you.

A lot would depend on the game being played, or rather, the primary setting.

For Horror/Supernatural games in a modern setting, I would use Beyond the Supernatural 2nd Ed, Mystic China, and perhaps Nightbane: Through The Glass Darkly.

For super-heroic adventure, I would use Heroes Unlimited, Powers Unlimited one, and Rifts: Book of Magic.

For Rifts, I would go with the Rifts: UE, and either Rifts GMG and Book of Magic, or Rifts GMG, and the Worldbook most relevant at the time.

Heroes
Rifts Utlimate
Ninjas and Superspies

Those could pretty much cover anything my players might want to play. As of late, I don't even use the books anymore at the table. Have most of what I like memorized or bastardized.

I'd have to base this off of what we're playing, and what I have that no one else can bring or we need more of.

What makes it particularly challenging for me is that so many of my 'needs' are specialized to several books, and I almost the entire Megaversal system.

I need N&SS for martial arts (and Mystic China to a lesser extent).
I need HUII and PUI for most of the powers.
I need the Rifts GMG for a lot of stuff, and the same with Book of Magic.
But, the rules for creating new magic are not in BoM: I need Through The Glass Darkly.
There are things for Psychic characters that aren't in Rifts: they're in Beyond the Supernatural II.

And so on.

It would really depend. I've been working on a alternate Rifts Earth setting, so all I really need is that notebook. The three books I'd take to support it though would be Monster's & Animals, the GMG and probably D-Bee's.

I carry a lot of books with me just in case... I usually never open one up. Even when players are shopping and want that Wilk's or... that Naruni pistol... most of the time I can just tell them what's available, what the stats are, and that's that.

Ah. Well. I only GM'd so far a RECON campaign and PFRPG campaign. After many years as a player, I decided to give GMing a go.

So my minions carry:

1. RECON
2. Advanced RECON

1. Palladium Fantasy Role-Playing Game
2. The Old Ones
3. Monsters & Animals

The alternative is everyone comes to me. :)

If I were running Palladium Fantasy, I would either bring:

PFRPG main book
Adventures on the High Seas
Library of Bletherad

or

PFRPG
Dragons & Gods
Mount Nimro.

Getting a mage to tell you where the hydra is...10,000 gold
Hiring a summoner... 40,000 gold
Hiring one hundred 10th level mercenaries... 98,567 gold
Giving a hydra skull to your necromancer... priceless

1~Rifts Ultimate Edition. everyone should have a mainbook with them.

2~Canada. No one single book is asked for more at our table, unless someone actually brought a copy. When it is there, no one wants to see it, and thus gameplay can commence uninterupted.

3~Source Book One. This is because I love the bionics and cybernetics options in rifts.
