Answer a Splicer Noobs Questions

Unread post by LostOne »

Please. :) I just finished reading the book, but there's a lot there to digest and with the distractions I was having in real life, my reading comprehension wasn't 100%. So, if something is answered in the book, kindly point it out, otherwise, feel free to speculate or answer how you would treat it in your game, or provide links or whatever as necessary. Number 8 was asked in another thread, but I don't know that I will get a lot of responses there.

1. What Rifters have splicers material?

2. The cutting room floor pages seems to be missing any Splicers character sheets. Anyone have any?

3. Why when a host armor is killed does a dreadguard or other host armor wearer start over in Bio-E? In step three of host armor creation it says, "As time goes on, the pilot becomes hardened to the stress and can handle more enhancements." So the pilot should still be able to handle more. It doesn't say "As time goes on, the armor gains more fine-tuned control on the feedback it puts on the wearer, so the pilot and armor team can handle more enhancements." It just seems to me that if the armor dies the dreadguard is basically getting pimp-slapped back to level 1. Possibly because of a few bad luck rolls on dodge/parry or natural 20s rolled by his enemies. The first statement also goes against this on the next page, "...it is also possible that, from time to time, an Engineer may grant a Dreadguard additional Bio-E as a reward for some special service or truly impressive heroic act..." So maybe it's a combination of the two, the Dreadguard withstanding more stress from the armor, and the armor fine-tuning the feedback to the Dreadguard.

4. Anyone have any good homebrew stuff on a website?

5. The resin ducts enhancement doesn't give any strength limits. Usually on something like that Palladium will say "beings with supernatural strength of X or greater can break free in X attacks" or something similar. I figured there'd be something like that for this. However...it gives an MDC limitation, would you let an encased person "flex" doing half-punch damage against it to escape, or something like that?

6. Organic Rockets says 6d6 hours to regrow spent rockets. I'm not sure how to take this, is that to regrow the entire spent payload, or 6d6 for each rocket, meaning if you fire 4 rockets it'll be 24d6 hours to regrow all those rockets?

7. Super Light Cells can be clustered up to 6 on each arm and 4 on the head. When buying upgrades like Mega, omni, super, ultra, would GMs allow one purchase to apply to the cluster? Or would they have to buy it 6 times for the cluster of 6 on the arm (that's 300 points for Mega!)

8. Parasitic Host Armor leaves the host hairless and pink. What about if the pilot was of African descent? I'm not trying to be racist here, I honestly do not know how deep their pigmentation goes. If the skin coloration is all surface skin cells and goes fairly deep, they should still be black. If it's just the cells near the surface, then would they be pink as well and no longer the chocolate or ebony skin? If they stay black, then no one is going to tease them about looking like naked mole-rats like people would their caucasian counterparts. ;)

9. Would Host Armor still have robotic strength on Rifts Earth, or would it be amplified to supernatural? (I'm guessing robotic)

No worries on asking the questions; I'm just glad the book is getting out there.

Here you go:

1. Rifters #37 and 38 contain Todd Yoho's excellent House Shiva creations. A must have, as far as I'm concerned. Unfortunately, I cannot remember what issues Slappy's ever impressive creations are featured in. However, his work can also be found here: http://forums.palladium-megaverse.com/viewtopic.php?t=73564

2. As far as I know, no "official" character sheet exsists. I'll take no offense at being corrected by another poster.

3. I would imagine there would be a period of adjustment for the newly created Host Armor, not necessarily the Dreadguard themselves. For my "universe", if the Dreadguard loses their Host Armor (and somehow manages to actually survive), they have to keep the replacement for a minimum of 60 days for the armor to synch with the Dreadguard. From there, the character can receive more upgrades or duplicate the original armor. However, keep in mind the Splicers world is one of the most lethal in the megaverse; characters without some type of protection aren't going to last long. PC's need to become VERY adapt at knowing when to run and knowing when to fight.

4. Slappy is the patron saint of homebrew Splicers. Check his stuff out, if you haven't already. If anyone else has some, I'm sure they'll post a link.

5. Hmm, that's a good question. No one in my group has ever used the resin ducts. Might be worth looking in the "Mistakes and Questions" post: http://forums.palladium-megaverse.com/viewtopic.php?t=29073

6. The description says "It takes 6D6 hours to regrow spent rockets." My personal opinion is that's 6D6 per rocket.

7. Since the Super Light Cells have to be purchased seperately, I would think they would have to be updated seperately. I did a quick scan of the Mistakes and Questions, but didn't see anything one way or another.

8. HAHAHAHA! What a thought!! There is a disease, Vitiligo, that causes a loss of pigmentation; even in darker skin shades. I would imagine that parasitic host armor would have a similar effect. At the very least, the character's skin color should lighten by several shades.

9. Splicer Strength is considered the equivalent of Robitic Strength. To date, only Scarecrows posses Supernatural strenght.

Hope that helps. Feel free to post away, I love looking at Splicer stuff.

My articles were printed in Rifter 30 and 32. It's exactly the same text as you'll find on the forums, but they're worth hunting down for the artwork. Some really impressive stuff.

Check my stuff too, I'm not at slappyìs level but some of my homemade material posted here is worth a look at least :)
