Why isnt there a Glitterboy miniature? or even a larger selection of miniatures? I know i would buy them. Just wondering if anybody knows why there are so few choices for miniatures.

There is a GB mini-pewter...Though, it may have sold out already.

As to why, The company that made them went out of buisness? Not sure really.

There was a GB mini, but that was one of the first to sell out. I would love to see more Palladium mini's. Know a company willing to buy a licenses from Palladium to make them If there were enough of us we could start a grass roots movement, hey you never know.

I would buy them IF Palladium came up with a table top wargame for their RIFTS line...hint, hint...

If they dont think people will buy expensive, unpainted miniatures (good evidence to that in the past) maybe they should authorize cheap, plastic miniatures instead. They would probably sell better.

Much as I hate to make the comparison, it seems to have worked out well for D&D.

Despite all the boners hardcore pewter painters get for spending hours & hours with little spray guns, the average gamer isnt looking for something so time consuming and expensive. They would rather have inexpensive miniatures they can rip right out of the box and get to playing with.

In almost any hobby, there are generally more people in the quick'n'easy camp than the hardcore, waste-all-your-free-time-with-tedious-work camp.

Heroclix is a perfect example. And the Mechwarrior series would do just fine for most Rifts stuff. The plastic mini's sell a lot better than pewter.
Just dig around in the different series and you can find plenty of things to use.

Many of these little guys are under 50 cents each.

Plastic miniatures aren't cheap. I've always heard that they are only cheaper if you make a HUGE production run, otherwise metal is cheaper.

Lies! Plastic costs half of nothing and a quarter of that to produce. Plastic is so cheap in comparison to metals (such as pewter and the "white metal" most commonly used today), that they make money by not using metal.

It is the simple difference of a limited resource and an unlimited resource; generally the most expensive portion of mini-manufacture is the molds. Also, it is cheaper to ship plastics than metals (weight and all that).

UNFORTUNATELY given the very small market these particular minis would see substantially increases the price to the point that they might as well use metal. That said, I would prefer metal minis (as long as they are high-quality; Gamesworkshop, NOT Ral Partha) as these are generally more detailed and more robust on the main body (heh, perfect for Rifts). Heavy Gear had a (now defunct) line of minis, and I am fairly sure were based in America. Maybe they are the best people to contact for this type of thing.

From what I understand, the expensive part of any miniature process is the mold... much like used home-buying in Houston.

It's not the material that's expensive, the molds required for plastic miniatures cost a great deal more than ones used for metal.
