Since RT got a new RPG from it's new found life, I think that TMNT should get another shake too.

The Comic has been back for a while now, so has the new cartoon. They even ,made a very cool CGI movie (yes, I know it bombed.). So, whats the word?

What are the reasons for voting no? You are perfectly entitled to your opinion, I'd just like to know why you would not like to see more books for TMNT.

Because you can play Turtles with books written for After the Bomb (simply set it in the modern day), and without Palladium expending capital on a license.

I voted yes, but really isn't Heroes Unlimited all you would need to play a TMNT type game?

If Palladium were to do a TMNT license would it really need a core book or could it just be a supplement to Heroes Unlimited with updated villains and some more animals?

I'm sorry, there is lots of new story, aliens, mutants, organizations and such that can't be just lifted form ATB. A whole new RPG book may not be needed, but a source book for ATB or HU would be great!

I want to see an updated Original TMNT. Take the old book and update it. Dont change the animals or BIO-E, just update the fluff basically.

Hey guys cast your votes.

I started playing the RPG because I was such a fan of the comics. I was part of the original fan base the reviles the old cartoon and just pretends it does not exist. I'm all for an update. But if it turned out to be based on the cartoon, I'd have a bit of a fit.

I would want skills and whatnot to be updated t the current time.

I didnt like how animals were messed with. Like Tigers getting the choice of 1d6+8 to PS for Bio-E and other strong animals not. Or poisonous snakes not getting poison.

Granted I havent seen the new AtB, but from what I have heard, I dont want to.

(the copies I have are the 1st and 3rd printing, with the sexual deviancy charts that they had to later take out. Those printings ate TMNT, not the Revised or anything else. I just want to books and timeline to be brought more up to speed. And keep the skill system the same... its the best skill system PB has IMO.)

Someone said earlier that a whole "core" book would not be needed and I tend to agree with that. I received the latest version of AtB about a week ago and I think that a TMNT Sorucebook (possibly several) that contained about the same, maybe a bit more, info than the old TMNT soucebooks would fit nicely.

As for coverage. Well, there is a ton of back story in a comic that is almost 25 years old. There should be plenty to work with.

I'd really like to see Eastman and Laird do the art again too! I just love that gritty, busy, heavy lined art.

Truth. I never though of it like that.

As for the "core vs source book" thing. I don't know. You make a good point though. I think it would be cheaper for the company to make just a source book but maybe more profitable to make a core book. 6 of one 1/2 dozen of the other. But I really don't know. I'm not at all familiar with the publishing industry, so I don't really know.

Nope... Palladium NEVER owned TMNT... they merely held the License for it. I don't think they ment actually "owned" it. You're right about the spawning of AtB form TMNT though. And then AtB and Transdimensional Turtles spawned Rifts.

So? You could play Shadow Chronicles by using the old Robotech books, but that doesn't mean the new book isn't welcome and enjoyed by the fans. Hell you can play any setting from any license by picking a Palladium setting and modifiying it, but half the fun is seeing the art and setting visualized in print.

After the Bomb, on the other hand, could go back into print without a license from whoever it is that holds the Turtles license. You could produce a supplement to After the Bomb called "Before the Bomb" (talking about random mutations and experiments in the modern day) or "Mutants in Time" (time-travel and using various eras instead of the standard setting) and, so long as you avoided treading on the Turtle's toes (i.e. don't go talking about rabbit bodyguard samurai named Usagi, Time Lords in the sense used in the comics), it's kosher as a setting book for After the Bomb.

Okay, but isn't the whole point to have the setting info in the book? It's like I said, you can take any Palladium setting and adapt it to a copyrighted one, but half the fun is seeing everything in print and being able to tote it around. In other words, someone else does all the conversion/set-up work for you, and you can just game (or complain about how they did it all wrong like some do in the Robotech forums :) ).

Sure, I could've taken Rifts and adapted it to Robotech (to continue with your example). I suppose I don't know enough about the world of TMNT beyond the Turtles themselves to see a terrible need for a Turtles-specific book, unless someone really, really wants to play Palladium-official Turtles.

Fair enough. Just take my word for it, the Turtles universe is every bit as vast and complex as that of Robotech. It's just where Robotech is melodrama in space, Turtles is tongue and cheek in space-time. :)

There already is a TMNT & OS, no reason to reprint it when there are so many copies available on amazon or ebay.

If it's not broke, don't fix it. I wish people would stop wanting to mess with perfection.

Ehh, the old TMNT book is WAY broken and FAR from perfect. I want a new license from Mirage and new book with the updated rules.

Oh I bought TMNT #1 back in '84. Then I got the RPG shortly after. Still have the same copy with the typewriter font and crooked layout. I love it! But it needs redoing as long as Eastman and Laird do all the art agian!

Look what it did to D&D!?! Walk into a gamer's room and ask if they play D&D and they ask what version, there should only be two responses...D&D or AD&D...not 3.5 or D20 or...blah, whatever.

What i wouldnt fix:

Skills. i love that setup and I think it's the best.
Bio-e. ATB2 is just ridiculous in their bio-e usage. Very high powered in that sense. i would make everything TMNT costs, but add in things that need to be added in.

what I would fix:

Layout.
Paired Weapons.
Updating the fluff and setting to make it a 2010 TMNT.

2010!?! Why?

I think it's best to keep set in the 80's that way you don't have to worry about adding new technologies and information on everything that was available in the 80's is available via the net.

Yup. That and when my group plays TMNT, its always played in current time. We dont go back in time to the 80's to play the game since it doesnt have to be pidgeonholed to that decade. It's not fair to the game to do that to it.

Did I say i needed anything spelled out for me? Nope. Not I.

I would like updates to the fluff, and to put in modern day prices for things. As well as other ways to get educated and whatnot. Next time, dont be a rabid fanboi. Sheesh.

I do have a question though. Being as all the Palladium games are on the same system (save recon) how is RIFTS designed to "spell out" every minute and TMNT is not?

You don't need a completely rewritten book to update fluff and as assign modern prices to things. Besides, the prices they put in today are going to fluctuate again and you'd be right back where you are again begging for something that isn't ever going to materialize and continue to post the same old tired thread asking for it over and over again...

Unless Palladium embraces the digital market and starts offering downloadable material on PDF they'll continue to fall behind.

Why can't the Rifter be legally attained via PDF? I could care less about the other Palladium games and I'd rather be able to print out the information pertaining to AtB so I don't have to lug around useless Rifters.

There isn't a big enough fan base for AtB to warrant new books and face it, there are better products out there. I'd be willing to wager the majority of people that have AtB2 purchased it because they played the original AtB or they got it free in a grab bag.

You are not required to buy the source book. Even if you do buy the source book, you are not bound to use the material in said source book. The constraint that you must use sourcebooks and follow the canon is purely a psychosomatic one. Do what you want.

Back to the topic.

If we did get a new TMNT book (sourcebook or corebook), what do you supose would be the chances of Eastman and Laird doing the art again?

I may get stoned by you guys for saying this, but I would rather have Ramon Perez. His art... it just makes me want to play what he has drawn. Always. Books that are half his art and half others.. the part that holds his art is the section i will read more than once. I cant help it, I am a visual type of person, but his art is perfect. For example.. I look through HU2 and I cant help but want to play a APS: Fire or Electricity, even though thats not either what I rolled or what I actually picked for my hero. I just want to play characters with those powers. And when i look at the other drawing for powers, noone of them grab me nearly as strongly as Ramon Perez's artwork does. He's nowhere as gritty or anything.. but I would rather play a Ramon Perez drawn mutant. Simple as that.

That guy Perez is great! I would be great to have hs art right nest to E&L's.
I also like that Wiliams guy. I was poking around the Art Gallery and I was impressed with his work very much.

This most likley a topic for another thread, but what ever happendd to Kevin Long and Newton Elwell (spelling?)?

So what sort of content would you like to see in a new TNMT book. Lets assume that it's just a source book for now.

I'd like updated stats on all the characters; Raph, Leo, Mikey, Don, April, Kasey, The Utroms, Triceratons, Leatherhead, Baxter (human and cyborg), Shredder, Basic Foot Ninja, Splinter, Mousers and what ever "newer" characters that have popped up since they stopped making the original game.

I would like it to be set in modern times. The Turtle's story has progressed far beyond the 80's so it makes sense to have book with current info.

I'd also like to see some new OCC's; Foot Ninja, Vigilante, Utrom Scientist, Triceraton Commando and Gang Member.

What do you folks think/want?

Eden suffers because the Buffy / Angel RPG suck eggs.

And I'm not talking nostalgia. I'm talking new and updated TNMT material. Check my last post.

And the newest TMNT (vol 4 or 5 I think) follows in the exact line and spirit of the all the other volumes since 1984. I have been collecting since #1 Vol 1 hit the shelves and the Mirage Studios comics have always been good. Hell, the where still good when Image took them up for a short time.

Besides, Mirage and Palladium have always seemed to have a pretty good relationship.

But to each his own. I put the poll up there for both opinions and I'm glad you decided to participate. :-D

I disagree. I've only got the Buffy corebook, but it looks to be a pretty well put together game.

However, if you want to argue it/convince me on the Palladium boards, it should be over in Other Games, not here.

Yeah, you don't have to explain anything to me. I mentioned it and that was that. Then I went back to the topic that I started. I have zero interest in trying to convince you of anything. If you wanted to talk about it, you should have place your last post in a new thread over in Other Games, not here.

So, back to the subject.

I know I had mentioned before that I'd like to see E&L do the art. I did not mean that I wanted to see them exclusively. It seems that there are plenty of great new artists working for Palladium and I'd like to see them all really. However, a color cover by E&L is a must!

Personally speaking (as I did in another thread on this subject), I'd like to see a revivial of The Nursery, the HU2 book that would have brought in & expanded the Mutant Animal rules into HU2. Also, I'd like to have seen updates to The Terror Bears, Doc Feral & the adventures from the TMNT Adventures supplement.

If Palladium actually revisited the TMNT RPG, no force in the universe could stop me from drawing for that book. I'd just want to draw the Turtles, mind you, someone else could draw the other mutant animals. :P

Art-wise, you would have to have Peter Laird, and Jim Lawson on board (and me too), just because it wouldn't be TMNT without them.
Mind you, I do also like the modern look of the Turtles introduced by Fox/Dreamwave.
Kevin Eastman, by the way, is no longer with Mirage Studios.

Rules-wise, of all the rulesets presented by Palladium, Eric Wujcik's Bio-E point system is my absolute favourite! `Nuff said.

Fluff-wise, I'd probably go with the modern incarnation. Not only was it much closer to the original story (rather than the campy 80's cartoon), but it also introduces some great new characters to the setting, such as the Purple Dragons, the Guadrians, and of course Kurai.

Kuri is in the current TMNT volume as a main character. If you haven't been reading the most recent volume of TMNT, especialy if you're a Lawson fan, you should. It's bad-ass.

I know Eastman is no longer with Mirage, but I think he could be coaxed to do a few pieces oe may a cover with Laird for their old pals at Palladium.

Although the new Dreamwave cartoon is much closer to the original story and far better animation wise, it's still cowabunga and pizza nonsense. I'd not like to see any of it's influence in a new book. I just want my B&W terps & friends.

Apollo, your art is fantasitc BTW! I'd love to see your work in a new book!

I have to admit, I only got to see the first season of the newer TMNT cartoon series (bad, bad TMNT fan), but it seemed really well done, with some nice story telling. Although I did also hear that it later started to go down hill after that, or maybe they were just refering to the whole Fast Forward thing (which I never saw)... I don't know. :-?

Mind you, Michaelangelo will always have a free pass at "cowabunga and pizza" in my book, he just doesn't feel like Mikey without being a little cheesy (pardon the pun).

Sadly, I haven't gotten to read any of Mirage Studios more recent comics, all I've seen are just the sneek peeks of them on their website. I'm on the fence though... As much as I LOVE the Triceraton and Fugitoid, I've never been big on the Turtles in outer space shtick. It was always so much harder to relate to the story whenever aliens got involved. Granted, Transdimentional TMNT was my favourite suppliment. :wink:

Thanks for the compliment, BTW! Just to let you know, I've recently posted a Ninja Turtle (and Nightcrawler) doodle on my website, which I'll probably be colouring just for the fun of it. I'm also going to posting a pic I did a long while back just before the license was dropped of two Turtles sparring (check back in a week or so).

Awesome work Apollo!
The guys over at Mirage are always having guest artists (to many for me to remember) do work for thier "Tales of TMNT" comic. You should check it out.

The new TMNT is neat. The Utroms have come to Earth and intergrated themselves and other alien races into Earth's culture. Now the boys can walk around in plain daylight. After 20+ years of muckng around inthe sewer and staying out of sight, I agree it was time to get them out in the open. It's neat. Nab a copy if ya get a chance.

Did you see the latest CGI movie? I loved it.

Oh yeah. But again, I really liked the stuff that was more down to earth rather than the super epic cosmic warrior thing (even though they looked really cool). Seeing Raph and Leo go at it, gave me chills.

To Duck and Mack,
I understand your doubt. But the question is do you want another TMNT RPG? The discussions over the possibility, feasability and mechanics are fine. I just don't want the topic to get lost in debate. The core question here is do you want another TMNT RPG or not. Cast a vote either way and let us know why. :-D

You are not required to buy the source book. Even if you do buy the source book, you are not bound to use the material in said source book. The constraint that you must use sourcebooks and follow the canon is purely a psychosomatic one. Do what you want.

If we did get a new TMNT book (sourcebook or corebook), what do you supose would be the chances of Eastman and Laird doing the art again?



Slim I would say, however I'd say that because I'd want to draw it. :lol: 8-)
