Hey everyone, I figured that I'd do something a little different than mutants, then post part of it here in order for all of you to see. So please read & let me know of what you think of it. Please tell me if I should keep going with it or not.

So here is Part 1:
The History of the After the Bomb Gene-tech:

The history of the AtB Gene-tech is of interesting origin, and of some debate of the scientists of the various mutant animal nations of the world. The gene splicing technology was first discovered in a crashed alien spacecraft that was found deep beneath the ice of Antarctica in the territory held by the United States of America. When the researchers had found the crashed spacecraft (at the 1 mile/1.6 km mark which was where the land was), they immediately contacted their government and relayed the information of the find. Upon receiving the call of the find of the craft (or Alien Space Artifact, ASA, as it became later known) the U.S. government went into action by sending a force of 500 soldiers, 50 scientists (to replace the ones that were already there, who were civilians), the needed technology (such as Tunnel Boring Machines (Aka T.B.M.’s), power plants, and other “Black-op” technology) and seized control of the compound. When the other countries found out about the soldiers, they started to protest that the U.S. was not allowed to bring arms and soldiers onto the continent due to the agreements that each of the 1st world countries had signed.
As the soldiers and scientists started to dig down to the craft, they found that there were strange isotopes & microbes in the ice and sediment. It then took them some time to start to dig out the ship, they found that it was over 65 million years in age (at the least). When the heads of the various departments back in Washington were actually surprised that something so old was found in someplace that, for all intents and purposes, was a deathtrap for those unprepared. When they opened the ship, the crews that were present were overwhelmed & killed by gas that was trapped in the ship for the last 65 million years.
When the U.S. government had lost contact with their people out in the field, they sent out some other people (that the government had thought could be expendable) from the various fields down to the bases location in order to find out what had happened. What the people had found was mass chaos on a scale that they didn’t expect considering the location. Upon contacting the government, they were told to finish the investigation of the area & of the ASA in order to find out what had caused the death of the previous group. After about 2 years of cataloguing everything that had been found, the scientists started to copy & run tests of the technology that was easily (relatively easy, at least) to identify.
By the time they had finished the testing/research phase of things, the project was into its 11th year with very little progress in figuring out what most of it could do. All they could figure out up to that point was that some of the tech was found to be useful for various forms of terraforming of planetary surfaces. The scientists back in the mainland U.S. figured that the aliens on board the ship were either planning to terraform Earth when they crashed, or were on their way to another planet to terraform that. What was also found was a way to produce spacecraft that were able to do inter-solar/planetary transportation. By year 22, the scientists managed to figure out a way to reproduce some of the Gene-tech that was found aboard the ship. But by then, one of the scientists (unbeknown to the others) had gone insane, and started to use some of the tech to effect some minor mutations in the other scientists by using some of the enzymes that were put into the food for the crew at large for their survival. After about roughly 1 year of taking in enzymes, the people started to mutate into short, hairy & with long arms & short legs.

Is this a revisionist history for your AtB setting?

A lot of people will revise the history of a setting to suit their needs. I think it was Macsting that had every animal and insect in his setting being mutated. Someone else revised it so that there were no humans left. I've made revisions of my own in some games too.

The setting as presented in the book doesn't have to the one you use. You can just use the book to create your character for any setting you wish to create, even one of your own creation.

well, suffice it to say, I figured that I'd post it anyway. Just in case someone else would want to use it.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm going to TRY to post some world information on here based on some of my earlier posts (such as some information of an AtB2 versions of Atlantis, Lamuria & maybe the Rama Empire). If you all would like me to do this, please say so. I'll even consider trying to post some new tech based on some of the technology of the A.S.A.

When the group was finishing the mutational processes, the scientist that had started to mutate the crew of the base used a massive dose on himself, mutating himself in hopes of becoming a god. But unfortunately, he ended mutating to such an extreme that the process drove him mad before “de-evolving” him into such a primal state that all that was left of him was the basic organic building blocks of life. After about a week of not having contact with the base, the U.S. government (along with a few other governments who were wondering what the United States were up to!) sent down teams in order to investigate. Unfortunately, when all the groups reached the camp, an all-out battle erupted between the groups, each thinking that the others had done something to the camp.
After about an hour of battle out on the ice, all the groups decided to call a truce in order to figure out what really happened. What they found was again chaos, but unlike the previous time, they found the mutated scientists & the computer files of the dead scientist who had done the deed. After reviewing the files, the U.S. government (along with the other governments that were represented) decided that what the scientist had done was of actual use (even if it was stupid at the time). They then decided to but their resources together and study the effects of the Gene-tech upon other creatures (since the effects on humans were now known) along with putting some of the other technology to use in space exploration, terraforming and other sciences that might be of use to humanity since the land masses were becoming with people. After a few years of studying the Gene-tech, some of the governments decided to but the alien tech to some use in curbing the threat of global famine but producing crops that could yield a greater, healthier harvest that could also grow in the harshest of climates. Some of the alien tech went towards melting the Antarctic ice sheet in order to get down to the continent that was known to be far below the ice. Upon reaching the land beneath the ice, the governments found that the area that was around the ship had, at one point been colonized by some sort of civilization that no one had even suspected had existed on the continent. After studying some of the writing, along with the fossilized remains of some of the people, it was found that they were in fact…. some mutants of the local flora & fauna that were mutated into the state of human-like sentience from the radiation that was pouring off of the ship from when it had crashed onto the continent. Luckily, the radioactivity had been reduced over the millions of years until it was equal to the background radiation that is common in the present day.
Some of the scientists had then deduced, after many years of studying the writing found that some of the mutations that had occurred through the radiation from the ship though had given rise to what is now called “The Age of Mammals”. It was also found that the writing that was found in the homes & religious places was similar to the writing that was on the A.S.A. A few months after that, one of the scientists (who as it turned out had a degree in ancient written & spoken languages, who also was an avid fan of the “Strange Rogue Sciences“) was looking into some of the writing due to the fact that something about it had “tickled” at the back of his mind about the writing. After about a year of studying, the scientist had nearly given up when he had a break through. The scientist, one Dr. Shoji Peterson, had found that there were some similarities between the mystery writing (or Pre-Homo Writing, AKA P.H.W.) and the ancient language of Rongo-Rongo from the pacific islands including Easter Island. Once the rest of the continent of Antarctica was revealed to the world it, at first, became a place of peaceful study & exploration of (since it in effect) a new continent, before the militaries of the world (after making sure of removing any alien tech and unknown prehistoric items) had let any civilians onto the continent. But unfortunately, that didn’t work out too well since major artefacts were still being found. After awhile, once the technology started to seep out to the public, people started to use the technology including for the space program. When NASA got their hands on some of the technology, they started to use it for some black-ops. Such as for inter-solar exploration, exploring the other planets in the solar system, starting with the most Earth-like of the planets such as Mars & Mercury. Upon getting to the planets, they found that there were some interesting above-ground ruins on mars and some ancient tunnels beneath the surface of mercury (probably to protect the inhabitants from the toxic & heavily metals-laced atmosphere). When they searched the tunnels on mercury, they found that the tunnels were inhabited up until at least within the last 100 thousand years. While they were searching the tunnels, they found what came to be called the “Granny load” of alien technology which included an extensive selection of genetic samples & technology. While at the same time, on Mars, they found alien technology within the structure called “The Face” in the Cydonia region of mars that consisted of more intricate vehicles (which was soon to be found to be the Vimanas of the Ancient Rama Empire). Some other pieces of technology consisted of digging machinery which the governments back on Earth decided to use the digging machines on the asteroids that are between Mars & Jupiter in order to see what may (or may not) have been in the area of the Asteroids.

This is becoming a great read, Rathorc, but you kind of deviated from the story when you speak about melting the Antarctic ice & discovering the continent below, and then take the journey into space & start exploring the other planets.

From the point where the governments take control of the gene-tech & begin to put it to 'humanitarian' use, there should be a little more intregue--let's not forget that corporate and political espionage can still play factors in the pre-Crash timeline of AtB2. It doesn't take much to factor in that the gene-tech could be stolen (or should I say, 'liberated') from the government by a opportunistic scientist & quickly disseminated to the world in a misguided attempt to gain recognition in the scientific community, or the scientist felt that such 'secret' information should be shared with the world & out of the hands of the "evil world govermental conspiracy".

Well, you have to understand, B.W. that I'm trying to put out some other stuff that's in my game that IS related in some ways to the Gene-tech (such as finding the alien tech that is on mercury that also comes with genetic samples from the alien planets). So there's more to come. Also, Thanx for the encouragement.

Meanwhile, back on Earth, the government scientists worked (AKA fiddled) with the Gene-tech in order to make sure that it was safe for mass use by the public. Taking their time to work through it and making sure that it would be workable (or even combine with) human technology. After 1 ½ years of research & development, the scientists agreed that it was safe for mass production, at which point they proceeded to send out the schematics to all the various medical research institutes in order to see what could be used for. Once the technology was developed more, it was used for mass medical research and improvements for health. First things that they started with was using it on the possibility of cloning primitive microbes that could be used in medicine and serums that could possibly cure cancers in live stock. This was followed by cloning organs of various test subjects, which included pigs, monkeys and apes. After they worked on the cloning project, some of the project managers decided to push the limits of genetic engineering by effectively creating mutant animals.
After the scientists that were part of the various research institutions had reached a certain point, the governments released the classified information that they were withholding to the scientist. Once the scientists received the information, they stopped the research in order to discuss the moral dilemma of using the technology to improve the human race instead of what the scientist had done back in Antarctica. But unfortunately, there was a spy amongst the scientists, who then released the information of what the scientists were doing, along with the other classified information that the government was withholding about the Antarctic expedition, to the public at large. Also, the public found out from the same sources that the various agencies were working on creating intelligent, non-human creatures. This information then created a large vocalization from various rights groups, both human & animal, who then proceeded to go to the different institutions and started to protest the buildings and campuses. Some of the scientists the started to receive death threats from unknown sources telling them to stop what they were doing. Meanwhile, other members of the public started to riot in the streets thinking that the various world governments were conspiring with aliens. After about a week of chaos in the streets, the governments decreed civil order would be established. But not before some terrorists decided to take over one of the labs, and started to produce unique plaques in order to “stop the Tyranny of the Western world”. The plagues that were created would (hopefully) destroy the various nations that would not bend to the will of the terrorists, such as leaving the nations that they control like Afghanistan, Pakistan and other Asia Minor nations.
