In theory, yes, but I would make an auto-renewing armor like that expensive.

I think a techno-wizard could definitely make something like that, given the appropriate gems, the necessary spells, and GM approval.

- Rifts isn't Warhammer 40K. Try to remember that.

Sounds like a well thought out idea and I'd allow it if the TW in question had electrical engineering as a skill. This would imply (on a passing roll) that he/she'd know how to craft a sensing circuit and such....

Off hand, the difficulty seem to be the trigger. Unless your Techno-wizard somehow knows the Trigger Ward, you would need to include some kind of alarm spell in the spell chain to warn the spell when it needed to be renewed.

If the mage knew the spell Golden Sphere (see the list of my spells posted in the new spells sticky), and Aoi, then he could possibly make a Variant of Aoi linked to a GS to make a self renewing Aoi spell.
For enchanting a GS into an item (TW or otherwise) you replace the gem with equal value (not weight) of silver for the GS components. Side effects, the silver will glow one candle per PPE point in storage in the GS TW engram. (My spell and it correlates to a TW item the GS developer made with it.) Now let me be very specific, the silver enchanted with golden sphere glows one candle per PPE point stored with in the silver.

thus, if your GS enchanted silver rod was painted all over except for the ends you'd have a flash light...or a targeting beam. (A TW could use a rudy to make it a laser targeting, I would guess)
