Gen Con, Amy and zombies
Amy Ashbaugh is one of Palladium’s hot new artists or will be once you see her outstanding work in Dead Reign (along with Nick Bradshaw).
We met Amy at Gen Con last year. Her first published work appeared in The Rifter #43 – Hanayome Ichibetsu, page 42 – but she’s been working on zombie art, on and off for about 10 months now.
I love Amy’s artwork because she somehow manages to capture a creepy elegance that makes you take a closer look even though the illustration may be gruesome of disturbing. That makes her perfect for Dead Reign. Most of the art she's done for it is in pen and ink rather than pencil like the the piece she's done in The Rifter #43. In fact, there's a scene with a little zombie girl walking down the street that is eerie.
Amy brought along some new pen and ink illustrations and I had the pleasure of showing them to Josh Hilden (co-author of Dead Reign).
The always smiling and pleasant Amy and I had several opportunities to chat in the Gen Con Art Show, where she had a booth, and at the Palladium booth.
One of my Gen Con highlights was the purchase of a gorgeous Amy Ashbaugh original pencil piece that she did special for display at Gen Con. I love it and so did my girlfriend back home. Let me state for the record, that Ms. Amy L. Ashbaugh is going to go far with her artistry.
Dead Reign is going to be hot!
I mean it. We had several dozen people ask if the Dead Reign RPG was out yet, and dozens more tell us they really hope it will come out this October. (It will!!) One guy said he can hardly wait because he loves the Palladium rules and has dreamed of us doing a zombie game for years. Cool. Um, I think.
I like zombies as much as the next guy, but it’s zombie mania out there. Folk are hungry for Dead Reign and I think they’ll love what we have in store for them.
Zombies are so popular Gen Con hosted a “Zombie Walk” with folks dressed up as zombies prowling the streets. Which by Saturday, made it difficult to tell which folks were in costume and which gamers had simply been gaming non-stop for three days and nights.
More to come . . . feverish or not.
Sincerely,
Kevin Siembieda
