And your point is? A party has to be pretty powerful before going up against a pair of greater earth elementals wouldn't be suicide. If you just want to kill your players' characters make them roll vs. brain embolism, it'll take less time.

If someone was playing a Rune Smith at all, they were probably being Munchkins. Showing them that there is ALWAYS someone tougher might have been the point.

Perhaps the Rune Smith was trying to put elementals into a Rune item.
In this case it is the dangers of trying to trap godlike beings.

If it was just done for GM amusement though it's not that cool.
