Re: Seeds From Our Past (Adventure)
The United Towns of New Americorp (UTNA) – Two years ago an official from the UTNA arrived with a trade caravan in the city of Three Rivers and established diplomatic contact. The contact is being kept quiet, but trade with the west coast has increased 100% since then. The officials of the UTNA want to make contact with the Republic of Cardania but are approaching things with caution.
Americorp is over 3000 kilometers away, across the rocky mountains, the great plains, and the appalachians.
how the heck did the official A) get there B) be able to start 'official contact' C) enable any sort of trade?
remember, this is a multi-month trip without planes or highway systems. most radios won't reach there due to range, curvature of the earth, and interveining mountain ranges. there is no sattelite comms, no telegraph, not even a postal service.

There was serious overland trade between Eastern Asia and Europe in the bad old days as well.
Silk Road and all that.
not directly. the europeans traded with the arabs and the Rus. who in turn traded with the mongolian groups. who in turn traded with the asians.
in only a few cases did arabs go all the way to china, and most of those stayed there. very few europeans travelled to china before the advent of the age of european exploration, marco polo being one of the rare few. and even then, it wasn't until the 1400's that any sort of direct trade was established, and even that was fairly low quantity due to the need to sail such a long way to get to india and china. (which is why columbus was ultimately given funding for his trip. everyone new his numbers for the circumfirence of the earth were wrong, but finding a way via a westward path would still be cheaper than sailing around africa.
connections between east and west north america in ATB should not be direct. the EoH supporting the roadhogs being the main exception. (the EoH has a bunch of heavy lift aircraft and total air superiority over north america. these are aircraft that can make the flight in hours. what i never got was why the EoH was bothering to supply the RH's in the first place. )
the idea of a trade road across north america is not a bad one, but in all probability it would be handled by Free Cattle, who claim the entirity of the great plains and midwest, and who, being nomadic, already would have routes of travel that allow them to move goods. but its not going to be in any sort of bulk. a few bolts of cloth, a few guns, some non-perishable food items per trip maybe. a trickle of goods. valuable only due ot their rarity. (much like the goods of asia during the days of the silk road. silk and spices were worth many times their wieght in gold, because so little reached the western world. but in asia, the same stuff was cheap, because they had lots of it. it was things like dates, olives, certain types of wood, and later guns that were valuable in asia, because they could only be gotten in a small trickle from traders who brought them from the europeans.

Cool adventure. I have always liked Clem. I even used a verson of him in a Rifts game as an NPC.

Could always leave it as a plot point for the GM to fill with something that connects into their campaign.

Does this mean that we may see it published in the Rifter?

Judging by the replies, it must have been an adventure setting. I never got around to printing it out , but I like Josh's work.
Kevin has told me in past conversations that he wants to see more AtB submissions for the Rifter, so I'm hoping that the original post is going to see publication.

Found out I did print out a copy of the original post. It was an adventure titled, Seeds From Our Past.

Why did you remove it? One of the selling points of the Rifter was being able to keep your submissions online.
