Gotta agree...the Hovertank may have gotten all the good face time, but the Ajax, like the Macross Destroids, deserves more love...

See what I miss because of too much work....not that I am complaining...OK I am...but couldn't they have given us a couple of battloids instead of 2 mecha we all can see just by closing our eyes and thinking about them???
Don't get me wrong...the pic of the Fenris makes me feel kind of funny like when we used to climb the ropes in gym, but I am waiting to see how they will mess it up.

Maybe Marie should grace the next Rifter Swimsuit edition
But if that happened, then we'd have to have Nova and Dana show up as well. I'd be crushed by that. Totally crushed.

Alright!
The AJACS gets its heroic shot!
And it's flying in atmosphere too!
That is one gorgeous cover, and it bodes well for the promised proper glory for the unsung mecha of Southern Cross!
(of course, it's outnumbered, the sun seems to be setting...and whose eyebrows are those at the top anyways?)

They are the eyebrows of a Robotech master. It is probably one of the leader triplets. No one can really say exactly which triplet though...
In SDC:SC, the names of the leader triplets are Demi, Dess and Dera. Robotech.com doesn't list the names of the leader triplets. Will their robotech names be mentioned in the Masters Saga book? Their names are never mentioned in the original Southern Cross RPG book.
The McKInney novels refer to them as Bowkaz, Shaizan, and Dag...they are not identified as such in the anime
The Guard Triumvirate are Karno, Sookol, and Darsis...They MIGHT have been referred to by name in the anime...
Dovak is a Scientist clone referred to in the novels...NONE of the cannon fodder upper echelon are identified by name in the anime...

The new cover definitely oozes 'awesome', though I wonder if we'll get a b&w version of Kevin Long's original cover gracing the inside of the book.

Not only that, but some of this artwork seems to be scanned and greyscaled from the animation. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the artists put in lots of time to produce these pictures... but we've seen them before already.

Nidaram12 wrote:The Ajax and Hovertank are so much cooler than they get credit for. I wish they'd make some new toys of either design... even poseable nontransforming figures. They look really dynamic in the anime.
Amen to that. Sadly, Toynami has essentially said 'No' to even make superposeables, something even people who basically dislike the middle chapter are finally beginning to say is completely unfair. Its also not good for business in my opinion. No one has made toys of these in the past and they could very well be highly in demand. The Ajax can come in two 'colours': standard black/white with red trim (officer's model) and standard black/white with ochre trim (NCO/Enlisted model). The Spartas would be in 3: red trim for Officer's, orchre trim for NCO's and white trim for Enlisted (and different heads for each, naturally). Logan superposeables would be gold w/orange trim for Officers, white w/orange trim for NCOs and pale blue w/dark blue trim for Enlisted.
So far, the Sylphide is only observed in white w/red trim (black accents for the feet)...probably for Officer's/NCOs, and white w/white & red trim (white accents for the feet) probably for Enlisted. Thats if you accept the idea that the Sylphide transforms (which dialogue says and for which there is alot of circumstantial evidence).
Of course, I would LOVE to get a few
Rolling Thunder-style Spartas and Logan Superposeables! Fred Perry did an awesome job with the subdued colouration on the mecha.

To Majestic and Nick:
I meant no disrespect or insult with my comment
. I know you guys are doing lots of work on an insanly short timetable and it's all great (far, far better than the wonky stick figures that I'm capable of) but Rabid proved my point right here:
It's just that the artwork that I've seen isn't that different from what I've seen already from the animation or previous works. Macross was a particularly glaring example because the VF-1 entries had front and back shots... which are very similar to the drawings Kevin Long made for the original RPG. Similarly, some of the drawings were quite similar to the Arii model artwork. Perhaps I'm just being picky and want all new artwork that I've never seen before.
But all that aside, you guys are amazing artists. As I said, I'm incapable of making stick figures look like they should
Please keep up the good work and may your signatures grace many, many Robotech books in the coming years

Nidaram12 wrote:I don't want to overstep my boundaries, but there's a few designs from Mike and I that are basically from scratch, drawn off of old animation turnarounds that looked like Virtual Boy stick models, and others that had entire sections missing. In the end the main goal was to update everything and apply some slick shading while making sure the art was reeled in enough to meet HG approval.
In my opinion, the 'lineart' style artwork should be reserved for books like the old
REF Field Guide.

Nidaram12 wrote:Are you thinking of a more painted style, like on the new covers Apollo did? That would be cool.
No, no. I mean 'wire-frame' lineart like you would typically find in an anime art book. The old
REF Field Guide contained a great deal of lineart from
Mospeada Color Graffiti as well as
The Sentinels sheets. That sort of art, as opposed to the grey-scale/toned artwork, should be reserved for any new books made like the
REF Field Guide. I love the toned artwork for the sourcebook because it just looks COOL. That was one of the really nice things about the old
Macross II Deckplans series as it made the mecha come alive in black & white. Its the best thing outside of slick pages and high quality colour art in my opinion.

About the latest Press Release....
Posted: Mon Feb 02, 2009 5:13 am
by Rabid Southern Cross Fan
Ok, a few things caught my eye with the latest press release....
The Army of the Southern Cross™ – all 15 branches.
Veritech Hover Tanks, AJAX, Logan and more.
Four ASC Battloids plus the Golem robot.
Six suits of ASC power armor – never before seen.
Other ASC vehicles, body armor, jump packs, weapons & equipment.
The Robotech Masters, Tirolians, and spaceships and weapons.
Seven different Bioroids, Bioroid Hover Sled, weapons and more.
Tirolian villains and player characters.
History, background and world information.
Quick Roll ASC Character Creation Tables.
Infinite possibilities for adventure.
Manga size for easy portability (5x7½ inches).
Written by Jason Marker. Additional text by Kevin Siembieda.
Cover by Apollo Okamura.
Art by the Mannings, Majestic, Maradin and Okamura.
230+ pages (and may be expanded to as many as 256 pages) – $16.95 retail – Cat. No. 552.
Still on track to ship in February. In final production.
Hmmm.....The ASC doesn't have 15 branches. The ASC is the Army (as per dialogue from
Metal Fire and reinforced by
The Sentinels Script Book 2). While it does have its own Air Corps (referenced in
Love Song), the TASC/TSC/CU are separate (they're the Air Force), the GMP is apparently separate (based on cues in the series and oddly enough from the Jack McKinney novels). The last is the Navy, which is unlikely to be part of the Army. So, I'm a little curious as to the '15 Branches' aspect. Furthermore, most of the specialized environmental troops are all part of the Tactical Corps itself.
No word on the Sylphide, so I'll take it that its been ruled against being a Veritech. Ah well.....
Four Battloids: Salamander, Monocle, Triton and Dryad plus the GMP's Golem Drone. Where is the GMP Garm piloted version? What about the Unicorn Battloid that the
Southern Cross Colouring Book establishes as being the same height as the Bioroids?
As for the Powered Armour, I take it there will be differences? The Kraken is most certainly exoskeletal, but the others would be like the Ultimax from
Rifts...sort of a blurring between Battloid and Powered Armour?
All 7 Bioroids this time? This could be interesting, as long as they're not made into non-combat models (since there is a drone 'pod' seen doing that kind of work). I would assume the 'unseen 2' are mecha of The Robotech Elders' forces.

Along the same lines, the 1/48-scale Southern Cross model kits establish the Kraken (Navy) as being in the same height range as the Garm (GMP) and Satyros (Mountain).

I really don't care. in the End its gonna be HG who decided what and how things appear in the RPG. if they say its Power Armor, it is, if they say its a Battiloid it is. if they say its a suit of Body-Armor, it is. until the book come out its not know.
either way both products are Valid, being both were Approved by the Designers at one time or another.

but its really Useless for the Same poster to come into every thread by RSCF or every post he makes just to tell him he is "Wrong" when the Offical Owner of the property isnt giving the Offical details.
one person uses a Model, one uses a cartoon book, its a useless debate, because neither own the actual property, nor have Creative design over it, and Debating over the Most ignored section of the Saga is great an all, but constantly telling another poster their Opinion is wrong is getting old, and it happens way to much on these board.
