GUN Strike

Unread post by Mouser13 »

Just making sure I'm not messing up, but Modern Weapons do not get P.P. bonus or HTH strike bonus. One my players thought it did.

Also, the new burst rules being 1/2 strike bonus, but what is a burst under the new rules.

JA-10- three shot pulse. 3 shots so yes?.
Boom Gun. It is a single round so would it be a bursts. SO no.
samas Rail Gun. Fires multiple shots. So yes.
Shermian warriors rail gun. Fires a single round. So no?

Just wondering how others play it. Main question on burst is the samas Rail Gun because it came up in play.

Lasers however have no recoil, so no.
Boom Gun. It is a single round so would it be a bursts. SO no.

Yes, it is, it is still a burst round and the recoil is the worst of any gun.
samas Rail Gun. Fires multiple shots. So yes.

Yes
Shermian warriors rail gun. Fires a single round. So no?

No, it is a burst.

All rail guns burst. Laser Rifles cannot burst.

What?!?!

The Boom Gun and Shemarian Rail Gun are both single shot rail guns. It says as much in their description.

The SAMAS C-40 can fire either a single shot or a burst.

But it also says they are bursts in their discription and the glitter boy even lists the bonus to BURST in it's discription.

Boom Gun, RUE, pg 72, under 'Rate of Fire' - "Bursts and sprays are not possible"

Shemarian Gun, rSB1, pg 107, under 'Rate of Fire' - "Each single round fired counts as one melee attack."

Perhaps you were confusing them with the regular machine guns listed under WP Heavy Weapons on pg 329 of RUE? Those are listed as burst only.

JA-10- three shot pulse. 3 shots so yes?. Energy weapons that have a pulse setting for a single pull of the trigger do not count as bursts.
Boom Gun. Not burst capable
samas Rail Gun. most rifts Rail guns and gauss guns fire busts as there primary setting, so unless the char says he is firing a single round, they are bursting.
Shermian warriors rail gun. Fires a single round. But blows up when the char tries to use it. :D Not bust capable.

well still not too clear on the new rules but a burst normally was 10% ammo wasn't it?
so 10 shots for a GB.

no

20% is a short burst and does x2 damage

50% is a long burst and does x5 damage

x10 is a full melee burst, it takes ALL actions that melee for a single attack, no dodges whatsoever are possible (unless you have autododge), and takes ALL ammo you have and must start with a full load.

basically that one attack had better kill whatever it was because your screwed if you miss.

well with a GB even a short burst is likely to kill a single opponent and you can fire at almost 2 times the range of even a mini missile lol

Yes, but he was talking about full melee bursts.

Thankfully a GB cannot do a burst at all (excepting the one in SA that only bursts). Same with the Shemarrian gun.

The SAMAS railgun can not fire a single round. It fires pre-designated bursts. The damage listed for individual rounds is for informational purposes only.

Where do you read that they have no single fire mode?

Where do you read that they have no single fire mode?

Original CB1, page 9, left side, last paragraph that starts with bolded text.

Just because it's optimized to do bursts, doesn't mean that it's limited to only shooting bursts.

Did anyone answer this part of the question?

I'll have a go at it.

I'm using my Dead Reign book because it's handy so your mileage may very depending on what game you're playing (Rifts, right?

Anyway, on page 180 you'll find the answer under Bonuses:
"The only bonuses that apply to using guns and other ranged weapons are the specific Weapon Proficiency, Sniping skill bonus if the character has that skill, any applicable bonus from the weapon itself, and the ones that follow..."

Even more clearly further down is this note:

A Character's P.P. Bonuses do NOT count when shooting a gun.

So no, the PP strike bonus is for hand-to-hand only.

Now I have a question that ties into this and it's for Robotech (but I would guess Rifts would have the same rules):

Does this rule also apply to mecha?

I played the old Robotech RPG back in the day and the rules in that game allowed you to use PP strike bonus for ranged weapons. I don't see anything in the RSC that would be to the contrary but the rules for ranged combat don't seem to be quite as elaborate as those in Dead Reign (DR is a newer game though).

I'm guessing that this rule does apply to mecha, but I'm wondering if anyone out there knows something different.

The answer is no they don't, normally. If your player takes the skill Sharp-Shooting then they can get a modified bonus from physical prowess.

Mouser13 wrote:Also, the new burst rules being 1/2 strike bonus, but what is a burst under the new rules.

Not completely. Most of the posters here seem to be confused about energy-weapon bursts. These weapons do recieve a penalty, but not as severe as say a railgun. I'll list it abit later when I get access to my books, but right now I have to direct you to the burst rules in R:UE for reference.

This is correct.

I use entirely different bonuses and penalties than that listed. That's how I play it.
