Palladium Books® Weekly Update – April 10, 2014
By Kevin Siembieda
Hello and welcome to the “good news” Weekly Update. There is news about the 2015 Palladium Open House (which is “officially” a go), books are going to press and others are ready to ship. So without further ado . . .
Palladium Fantasy RPG® 30th Anniversary Hardcover – ready to ship
Palladium Fantasy®, 2nd Edition Hardcover arrived from the printer yesterday and we have been signing books like mad men to get this beautiful edition into your hands. As soon as we get everyone to sign all the books (by Friday) they will be shipped out to everyone who has placed a standing order. Some of the pre-orders may start to ship out as soon as Friday and the rest by Monday and Tuesday. The old “Crimson Edition” hardcover sells for $300-$500 on the secondary market. The new hardcover is likely to become a collector’s item as well. Note: This is the Palladium Fantasy RPG, Second Edition, all exactly the same as the current printing. It is also sewn and glued.
REMINDER, we do not charge your credit cards until a book is ready to ship, so if you placed your order weeks ago, your cards have been charged this week, and it should appear on your upcoming statement. Kathy has been processing orders all week. If you haven’t ordered yours yet, you should ask yourself, “What am I waiting for?” (And while you’re at it, pick up your copy of the Heroes Unlimited™ Hardcover, or maybe the Collected Mechanoid Invasion® Trilogy, too.)
AVAILABLE NOW: Heroes Unlimited™ 30th Anniversary Hardcover Edition
This nifty Heroes Unlimited™ 30th Anniversary Hardcover is a beauty and a nice addition to any collection. Available now at $40 while supplies last. Destined to be a collector’s item. The old hardcover sells for $200-$350 on the secondary market.
UPDATE: Rifts® Northern Gun™ Two – in final layout
Why has Rifts® Northern Gun™ Two taken so long? Because to make this book everything we promised it to be, it keeps growing and growing in size. First it was 160 pages. Then 192 with the real possibility of being 224. Now, the page count is looking like it will top out at 256 pages! And we’re having trouble squeezing it all in using a variety of typesetting and layout tricks. For awhile it was looking like 272 pages!
Rifts® Northern Gun™ Two is undergoing final layout even as you read this Update! I am wrapping up the final couple of sections of writing and editing, while Wayne lays out the 90 pages of power armor. I hope you find the end result to be nothing but pure awesomeness. NG-2 will go to the printer on Tuesday or Wednesday next week. We’ll be working through the weekend to make sure of that. With the increase in page count, the price of the softcover edition is going up a couple bucks to $26.95 retail. We hope you understand. The softcover edition is likely to ship sometime the first week of May. The special, super-limited hardcover editions for Megaverse® Insiders who purchased them will ship a few weeks after that at the end of May. See the updated description elsewhere in this Update.
DON’T FORGET, you can see a Rifts® Northern Gun™ Two Sneak Preview – available free on DriveThruRPG.com. There are also FREE previews on DriveThruRPG.com for Rifts® Northern Gun™ One, Rifts® Vampires Sourcebook, Rifts® Vampire Kingdoms™ (Revised Edition), Rifts® Black Market, Rifts® Lemuria, The Rifter® #65, Dragons and Gods™, Dead Reign™ RPG, Endless Dead™ sourcebook and others, too. Plus we plan to add other sneak previews. Btw, the original Rifts® Vampire Kingdoms World Book is also available as a PDF on DriveThruRPG, for those of you who may be interested. More are coming.
UPDATE: The Rifter® #66 – ships April
With Rifts® Northern Gun™ Two nearly finished, Wayne and I will be turning all our attention to getting The Rifter® #66 done and to the printer. This is another excellent issue. See the full description in this Weekly Update and the online store. Cover price has increased to $13.95 and remains a steal for a 96 page sourcebook.
UPDATE: Rifts® Megaverse® in Flames – Ships May
This is the book that comes next. Again, I think the final editing and rewrites for it will go very quickly. A May release seems very doable at this time. I will be diving right into it as soon as I’m done with my contributions to The Rifter® #66.
UPDATE: Robotech® RPG Tactics™
The First Wave of this son of a gun is getting ready to go into manufacturing very shortly. About flippin’ time! Wave One coming in a few months. We’ll get you details as soon as we have things nailed down tighter.
UPDATE: 2015 Palladium Open House – May 14-17, 2015
$109.00 (plus tax) per room at the Comfort Inn, aka “Plymouth Clock Tower Hotel.” This is the hotel everyone knows and wants. On Monday, I formally signed the contract with the hotel, so it is “official.” You can start placing hotel reservations for the 2015 Palladium Open House as of this weekend. Make sure you tell the Group Code “Palladium Books.” This is a must to get the superior group rate.
That’s $109 (plus tax) for a room with two queen beds or one king with a sofa that has a pull-out sleeper. ALL rooms have a micro-fridge, FREE hi-speed wired/wireless Internet and there is a FREE hot breakfast from 6 A.M. to 10 A.M. near the lobby. The hotel also offers a heated indoor swimming pool, a fitness center (24 hours), and a coin operated laundry. And the large conference room is ours to use, around the clock for open gaming.
Comfort Inn
40455 Ann Arbor Road
Plymouth, MI 48170
Phone: 734-455-8100
Group Code: Palladium Books – you MUST request the Group Code “Palladium Books” at the time of booking to ensure the correct rate will be quoted and billed to you.
Dates of the 2015 Palladium Open House (POH): May 15-17 (May 14 is VIP Thursday), 2015.
Reserve Group Code Palladium Books sooner than later. The hotel has been remodeled, resulting in a fewer number of rooms. If you know you are coming to the 2015 Palladium Open House, we recommend you reserve your room as soon as possible to get this superior rate. Important Note: You MUST give them the Group Code: Palladium Books to get this rate. Call 734-455-8100 to make your reservation. The hotel does NOT charge your credit card until a few days before the event (next year!) and you can cancel up until May 10, 2015. So there is no reason to wait. Get your room(s) reserved right away. Besides, I suspect POH attendees could take EVERY room in the hotel next year, so the sooner they know that, the sooner they can put MORE rooms aside for us. They don’t believe we’ll sell out the hotel. Silly, new management. :)
Volunteer G.M.s to run games, helpers and Palladium Creators NEEDED! G.M.s who run three or more events get a 30% discount on product and a special T-Shirt at the Open House. Please, start plotting your games now. And get back to us at your convenience. The awesome Mr. James Brown has already committed to running four games at the 2015 Open House. Cool. We’ll also need volunteer Helpers and we’ll need to know which Palladium Creators like Allen and Brian Manning, Irvin Jackson, Carl Gleba, Nick Bradshaw, Carmen Bellaire, Bradon Aten, Amy L. Ashbaugh and others are planning to attend the POH next May.
More details will follow in a few weeks. I just wanted to let you know that Palladium has secured the hotel everyone wanted. And that you can start making reservations NOW to secure your room. I will post more details about the 2015 POH in the weeks to come. I’m already looking forward to seeing many of you next year!
Penguicon, Southfield, Michigan – May 2-4, 2014 – Kevin Siembieda a featured guest
Shoot, I keep forgetting to mention that I am a featured guest at Penquicon held at the Westin Hotel in Southfield, Michigan. Palladium will be there with a small booth too. Penguicon is a not-for-profit, community-run convention for diverse tastes – open source software, science fiction, music, gaming, DIY, and more. There will a masquerade contest, music, lots of fun panels and seminars, a dealers’ room and other good stuff. Check out the website and come on over to join the fun.
Palladium will have a table or two there (Chuck Walton will be there selling art with us), I’m giving four or five panel talks (one on Hollywood and Licensing, one on running RPGs, one on World Building and writing, and I forget the other 1-2, but there’s more). Plus, I will be on a couple other panel talks and key convention events and at the Palladium table to chat and sign autographs. I hope to see some of you ladies and gents at the event. It’s a small convention so it’s much more intimate than the big conventions, so you can spend more time visiting with me and the Palladium crew. Note: This is the LAST convention Palladium and I will be attending until Gen Con Indy!

Staff Birthday Celebrations on Friday
We’ll be getting together Friday evening to celebrate Julius Rosenstein’s and my birthdays. We were going to celebrate Matthew Clements’ birthday, too, but the lad is off on one of his writing sabbaticals. He was supposed to be home sooner, but he extended his writing getaway an extra couple of weeks. We’ll have to catch him later. Hmm, maybe we’ll even close the office down for a couple hours Friday afternoon and all sneak off to see Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The guys certainly deserve the break.
I hope you are all as glad to see product finally hitting the shelves and going to the printer as we are. One outstanding new release after another is coming your way. Have a great weekend.

The “Collected” Mechanoid Invasion® Trilogy – available now
This is the original three Mechanoid Invasion® books published in 1981 and 1982 and first collected in one volume in 1998. The collection is back due to popular demand from YOU. It contains all the material that appeared in the original three Mechanoid Invasion® books plus some background history. This is the game and sourcebooks that launched Palladium Books.
The story of the Mechanoid Invasion® is a tragic one that spans the galaxy and generations of people. The Mechanoid Invasion® starts on a distant planet being colonized by humans, until the Mechanoids arrive. The seemingly alien mechanized monsters intend to strip the planet of all its resources and literally carve it up into pieces and haul it away. The loss of human lives mean nothing to them. Indeed, the Mechanoids seem to delight in capturing, torturing and slaughtering what humans they can find. Can nothing stop the destruction?
The Journey follows the story of human colonists from the doomed planet surviving by living between the walls and tunnels like rats on a ship.
Homeworld carries our story to the Mechnoids’ homeworld in search of answers, but only more mystery, carnage and alien menaces await.
All of the above are contained in this one, 208 page volume. Back in print because YOU demanded it. But this volume is also unique as it gives you a glimpse of Palladium Books from its very beginning. Enjoy.
- 29 Mechanoids and their robot minions.
- 18 human O.C.C.s including combat troops, psychics and others.
- 7 alien races including the insectoid Mechanoid allies, the Dionii.
- All kinds of energy weapons, combat armor, vehicles, spaceships and more.
- Suitable for other Palladium world settings. ALL characters, aliens, ships and gear can be dropped into Rifts®, Phase World®, The Three Galaxies™, Heroes Unlimited™ and other Palladium RPG settings with minimal conversions (i.e. turn S.D.C. for armor and weapons into M.D.C.).
- An S.D.C. setting that is easily converted to M.D.C. environments.
- An 8½x11 softcover edition of the “collected” Mechanoid Invasion® Trilogy.

NEW! Heroes Unlimited™ 30th Anniversary Hardcover Edition – only $40 while supplies last – available now
The Heroes Unlimited™ RPG turns 30 years old this year. To celebrate, Palladium is releasing a special, commemorative, Heroes Unlimited™ 30th Anniversary Hardcover, for only $40. Available now. The original HU2 hardcover sold for $50 and has since become a collector’s item that sells for $200-$350 on the secondary market.
To preserve the value of the “original” Heroes Unlimited™ Gold Hardcover Edition, we have made the HU2 30th Anniversary Edition as visibly different (and cool) looking on the outside as possible. The material used for the cover is different (not leatherette), the color is a lighter shade of blue, and although the cover is imprinted in gold foil, it features artwork depicting a superhero and the words “Special 30th Anniversary Edition.” Even the spine is different looking, and the end sheets are red and without art. The red, white and blue combination represents the United States of America, the birthplace of superhero comic books, and the colors of costumed heroes.
All the elements described above should make the Heroes Unlimited™ 30th Anniversary Hardcover impossible to mistake for the original HU2 signed and numbered HC edition. We have kept the price an unprecedented, low $40 for a hardcover Gold Edition of this size. We want to give Heroes Unlimited™ fans a crack at purchasing one before the price skyrockets on the secondary collectors’ market. Enjoy and game on!
- Limited to 400 signed and numbered copies.

NEW! Palladium Fantasy RPG®, 2nd Edition, 30th Anniversary Hardcover Edition – only $40 while supplies last – Available now! – Second Edition Rules.
It didn’t seem fair to offer a Heroes Unlimited™ Hardcover Edition and not one for Palladium Fantasy®, so Rifter® subscribers were the first to get the news that Palladium has released a Palladium Fantasy® Special 30th Anniversary Hardcover, available now! The Palladium Fantasy RPG® was released in June of 1983, so technically, the Fantasy Game is still 30 years old until June.
The original Crimson Edition hardcover sold for $50 and has since become a collector’s item that sells for $250-$400 on the secondary market. The special, commemorative, 30th Anniversary Hardcover sells for only $40.
To preserve the value of the “original” Palladium Fantasy RPG® Crimson Edition Hardcover, we have made the 30th Anniversary Edition as visibly different looking on the outside as possible. The material used for the cover is a brown leatherette imprinted with “Elemental Green” foil, different art on the cover, and the words “Special 30th Anniversary Edition.” Even the spine is different looking and the end sheets are without artwork.
All the elements described above should make the Palladium Fantasy RPG® 30th Anniversary Hardcover impossible to mistake for the original signed and numbered HC edition. The price is $40 (while supplies last), low for a limited edition of its size. We want to give Fantasy fans a crack at purchasing one before the price skyrockets on the secondary collectors’ market.
Second Edition rules. There has been some confusion among fans as to whether this hardcover edition is First or Second Edition rules. It is SECOND Edition rules, exactly the same as the current material in the softcover book.
- Limited to 450 signed and numbered copies.

- Brown leatherette cover with Elemental Green foil imprinting. A completely different cover than the original Crimson Edition.
